I know they are important sometimes and required to solve more complex spyware problems etc.. They are just a big turn off for me.. one is ok (maybe), but when one thread has 20 pages of hijack this logs, I really can't be bothered to read them, especially when they are posted too early in the diagnostic process.. I just move on to a different problem, and leave it to others who can be bothered..

I would prefer people to use an online analyser, and post an edited version (the warnings), which require some human advice.

My other gripe about them, which I have mentioned before, is that the net is being taken over by hijackthis logs..Put any common exe name into a search engine, and you have to wade through 1000's of pages of hijackthis logs, before you find out some facts..

    Very true.

Though on the final point.. usually when you google the .exe and get linked to thousands of other forum posts, usually they have a good outcome/solution to the problem!!!

I know i've solved a few spyware cases that way through german forum posts with solutions, the only way i found them was googling the spyware .exe thru the hijack this log lol!

Ye it takes some effort, but then again, suppose we all learn from it.

Anyway... without hijack this I would never have come out of the lop loop (alliteration aside of course..)

    :)

I find, you have to wade through a lot of forum crap (this forum is quite well informed though), before you get the answer. The net is full of IT problems, but the answers are much harder to find.

There should be an international code EurekaFixed, or something, so if you put "Sasser EurekaFixed" into google, it goes straight to the one page with the complete answer on how to get rid of Sasser..
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Not a bad idea.. although i'm not sure how we can spread the word around the entire online IT Community... ;) Just for you i shall use it though :P

It would get misused anyway, people would post things like, "has anyone got a Eurakafix for the Sasser worm"

  • I suppose someone like us could create a webpage called eurekafixed, and on it document all types of torubleshooting with solutions from forums, and obviously call them all eurekafix solutions for the googling :)

Just cant afford the web hosting, though I could do it over summer...
