Extra processes

I have a feeling my computer has extra processes (it has an average of 38 running usually). Does anyone know if this is about right and does anyone know any programs i can download to check and get rid of anything causeing these extra processes if there are any.
I am also haveing problems with DVD playback on my computer at the mo.....Please see the speaker help please thread to help me with that

There is no way of knowing how many processes you should have running, as we don't know what software you have installed.
If you are concerned you may have viruses/trojans/spyware there are stickies at the top of this board about malware/viruses and security that have suggestions about software removal tools and best practice.0 -
38 seems fine, i usually have more running than that, about 45 and my pc is on 24x7
look for a program called hijackthis this could help you.Waddle you do eh?0 -

i think im being a bit paranoid...i have had a lot of problems with viruses and spyware in the past.
the only prob that i have with my pc is it constantly crashes in the middle of a game without warning0 -
if not an online game try turning off your Antivirus , firewall and antispyware

tried switching of everything and it still crashes......i have recently installed new RAM but it is fully compatible with the motherboard could the RAM be faulty?0

can be he sound card, can be the graphics card, the sims used to randomly crash on an old win98 pc of mine,never did work out why
