ooh where is it didt realise there was one in durham I know there is one in chester le street and hexham but thats all i am aware of in that area
Im getting a bit addicted now hate paying full price for anything when you could see it at a car boot the next week and get it for a bargain price
There's none in Durham itself, I normally go up to Hexham, it's my favourite
Other than that there's Seaham (Sat/Sun), Sedgefield (Thurs/Sun), Stanley (Sun), Peterlee (Sun), there's probably more, but I much prefer Hexham so I don't really try out new places very often. The one at Seaham is massive on a Sunday, lots of new goods.butcher etc but lots of normal people selling out their old tat too
Peterlee/Stanley not worth bothering with IMO. :j30/7/10:j

If you want to see the black economy at work try the CB at the Leeds fruit and veg wholesalers.
Copy dvds, !!!!!!, cheap booze and fags, and other assorted knock off gear can be found, its great fun watching when the police come in the main entrance, how many stalls temporarily pack up, only to return once the police have gone.0 -
Managed to do 2 car boots at the weekend. At the first there was a gob!!!!! a couple of stalls away mouthing off to someone (think he was trying to impress their teenage daughter) that the stuff on his stall was too hot to handle. At the other the police were walking around - never seen them before at a boot sale and I've done a few over the years.
The worst one I've been to was an indoor one near Bolton. By the entrance was the dodgy DVD sellers, stopped to have a look and then walked away. I was followed all the way around by an eejit with a holdall. I was also followed out to my car. When I was telling someone this story they told me that I "looked like a copper". I'm not. Never been back there, never will.
Also, near where I live, I can't sell DVDs, people just don't want to buy them. When we go to Cumbria, they fly out. Also, people in the Manchester area don't read books. Cumbrians are avid readers and can't get enough of them. Could be something to do with there being nothing to do in Cumbria  (I say that as a born and bred Cumbrian, btw).0 -

Anymore info on this you could give me? Like what CB stands for? I study this sort of thing, you see...0 -
CB = car boot (as in car boot sale)
I just don't understand the 'dealers' who are there every week with the same old tat. Surely they are making a loss after paying for their stall every week - they can't be selling much, as you see the same goods week in week out. I wouldn't be bothered. Plus they always opt for the same spots - I could walk round blinfolded and still avoid their stalls! Surely it would be more beneficial to move around a bit to stop people becoming used to where you are and avoiding you!0 -
I've just found this thread after searching for Sedgefield (am at the racecourse for a conference on a Thurs!) and wanted to comment on the 'regular traders'.
Blaydon is my regular hunting ground on a Sun morning and the house clearance guys usually have the same spots. I have bought some huge plastic planters/tubs for around the £1 mark; condition was not an issue as I only wanted them for growing veg. Toys are often cheap too as these guys don't have an emotional attachment to them, or know the original price which the yuppy mums always try to tell you. I've seen decent rugs and furniture too. Oh and I bought a 'quality' garden fork for £3, seventh heaven to me!
There is also a 'mature' lady who goes to the local auction house and buys 'mixed boxes' for a couple of £s and then has a stall. I have no idea how she makes any money at all as it really does seem to be a load of tat. She's there long before 6am too!
and yes, there is the meat van!
I suppose as long as the seller and buyer is happy, a good day is had by all.0 -
The problem at Sedgefield is that dealers can pay extra and go in early. Regular punters turning up at 8am or whenever it opens to the public have already missed the good stuff as the dealers have it.
If you are in the Co Durham area try the one at Darlington FC on a Sunday morning. The council run it so there's no traders, no new goods and no one gets in early. They are real jobsworths so it gives everyone an equal chance. Don't expect it to be as big as Sedgefield though there are only between 40 and 60 stalls but the majority are genuine one-off sellers.Instant Credit means Instant Debit!
Walking to the pub IS exercise! :beer:0 -
Does anyone go to the Standerwick one in Somerset as I went there for the first time today and had to pay £2 to get in! And it was all worn out things that you'd never even give to people. No decent stuff.0
