Using a mobile from New Zealand

I'm not a big mobile phone use (PAYG in UK) but needed to have it during a month long visit to New Zealand.

Best option by far is to take your mobile (make sure it's unlocked) and buy a Vodafone NZ Prepay pack for $35. You get a SIM card (and new NZ number) instant $5 credit, plus a further $10 if you register online. Calls to UK, Oz and USA are a bargain (and even cheaper at off-peak) and Texts are cheap too. :T

And you throw the SIM away when you get back home!

Calls to UK landlines and mobiles are about 20p per minute

For calls longer than 5 minutes, it may be worth also having a Vodafone UK SIM on their Passport scheme. Calls cost 75p connect fee, 5p/min off-peak to NZ and UK landlines (and Voda UK)
