TV Stopped working 3.5 years later.. Replacement/Refund?

As the title says I bought a TV a while ago from PC world on the 10/15/05. It cost me £689.99 for a 32" LCD.
I still have all the receipt packing etc.
Now I know my warranty of 12 months is up but would I be wrong to say a TV should last longer than this.
Basically do I have any rights to a refund or partial refund or replacement?
I full refund would be great as I can replace it for less, but to be honest I am just after another TV without it costing me.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks

I doubt you will get a refund........ TV's normally last though dont they might be worth writing to the tv company perhaps its a common fault and they might do something for you?
Someone is bound to be along with better advice soon though lol. This is the mse board after all ha ha!2 Weeks In Spain! Benitachell Villas Yay :j0 -
As said I just want a working TV, and a cheap 32" now is up to the same specs, I am sure they are ment to last 5 years don't remember where I heard that.
Would home insurance cover it? just another thoughtHave my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Defininitely not covered by home insurance.
To be honest, if it were my tv I wouldn't expect any comeback, unless you bought an extended guarantee or from John Lewis, who offer a free 5 yr warranty on all tv's.
The trouble with tv's & how long they last is that so many factors come into play, the make; some makes are pretty rubbish & don't seem to last as long as others. Some people have the tv on a lot, where other's have the tv on less often.
From what I've picked up a decent LCD tv should be expected to last for 60,000 hours if the conditions in the home ( humidity etc) are suitable.
However, you've got nothing to lose by doing a bit of internet research on your particular tv to see if it's a problem brand/model & then approaching pc world or the manufacturer of the tv to see if they will offer at least a repair. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Whilst the SOGA is there to help, I think your come back is not going to be worth the hassle and effort. After much letter writing, and potentially going to small claims, you'd either lose or get a small payout.
I'd google the model no. of the TV and the fault to see if it is known - it may be repairable for a relatively small cost if only a small component has gone, or there are dry joints on a circuit board.0 -
Not turning anything on the model, bit of a pain, can't really afford another.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

The SOGA states that a product must last a "reasonable" length of time, I think it is reasonable that a £600 tv should last 5 years. However it also allows for the fact that you have had some use of the product. If a judge accepted that the tv should last 5 years and you have had use for 3.5 years he might argue you should only get 1.5 years worth of the cash ie £180.
So it may not be worth court action, but defo worth a few letters, I would write to both the retailer (your contract is with them) and the manufacturer quoting the SOGA and see what happens. They may offer to fix it for free which is reasonable.
good luck

That assumes linear depreciation - depreciation is rarely linear, just look at cars and the second hand TV market is less obvious than the used car market. I agree with the conclusion though0 -

Could people using acronyms like SOGA please explain what on earth they mean...0
