Tixy what is a battery mascara (sorry if I sound thick)!!

    Its useless!
Its a supposedly wonderful new idea which has a little battery in that vibrates the wand to get better cover on your lashes. (a bit like those razors that have batteries in to vibrate and give a close shave)
I was nearly wrote 'vibrating' masacara but thought that also might confuse poeople!

Surely no cosmetics live up to their name?
Plonking brown stuff on your skin, bright red on the lips and blue on the eyes is really fairly disgusting, but there are whole industries based on selling you the concept (cosmetics companies, glamour magazines, shops, TV programmes).
I guess it makes you look better from a distance, but up close - yeeeech!
  • I always send things right back to the manufacturers and have found them to be very helpful... eg loreal - I posted back a mascara with a long run down of the problem, how it compared to other mascaras, why this one was rubbish etc and they sent me back a refund for the mascara and postage, and a selection of their other mascaras, based on what I was looking for.

However, I have bought 'premium' products from discount sites, sent them back because they were awful only to be told that they are fake/really old, discontinued and considered past their sell-by date... so now I don't buy from discount sites, as there is no come-back which I find annoying.

IVE just contacted L'oreal after trying their mascara which claimed to be waterproof but actually left me with massive panda eyes (which i never get) and a tiny nest of baby spiders (well it looked like that ;))

they replied with an apology and an offer of a voucher,

    cant fault them for that.

I think I may have been even more confused if you had said that you'd got a vibrating mascara :D
  • I bought a mascara from a well-known brand from boots. I tried the mascara, but it was really rubbish. I tried to take it back to boots but they refused, quoting some 'policy' on no returns for make-up.

Am I entitled to a refund?

I tend to stick to just a few discount sites and have never had a problem but I agree, there are some dreadful websites out there (there's an ongoing thread about a company called daventure or something like that where people have been ripped off left right and centre). If I'm not sure I just check on places like this forum for good advice and I never buy makeup off ebay.

I'm amazed though that when you've sent something back, they've actually admitted to selling fake stock - did you report them to trading standards?

I bought some make up online from the Body Shop which wasn't quite what I had expected it to be and they were happy for me to return it.

It does state the dont refund makeup, The bad quality is nothing to do with them personally. Write to the manafactuarer, most of the time they will refund you or send some form of vouchers and be quite apologetic.
