I didnt know you could actuallly return the product if you were disatisfied with it.God knows Ive been and then just stopped using them blaming myself. Rimmel has to be one of the worst brands for mascaras but there lip pencils are good. How can one decide when to go to a manufacturer.I bought a Mac face powder from Harvey Nichols in london. When I went home and opened it it was damaged.I swear I dint do anything to it.Went back told the mac counter girls and they just said they couldnt help.Im def not using Mac or Harvey again. I get allergic to mascaras.Have tried most so now just dont use it.0

well today I returned my first ever item of make up to boots
I bought a "new super duper" mascara last week it cost about £10 and I used it twice and it smudged dreadfully - i looked like I had slept in it
normally I would throw it away- but being a bit strapped for cash these years i took it back rather apologetically to Boots
I started to explain to the number 7 consultant and before I had finished, she said " don't tell me it smudges really badly "
I was so pleased she knew about the problem - she said it was the carbon particles and asked me if I wanted to choose a different type
I was thrilled to bits !!!!!!
she was so nice and said she and her colleague had the same problem with it, and if ever I was disatisfied with their products I must return them
so hats off to boots in Coventry for their excellent and professional customer service0 -
I have returned Boots own brand and they are very good about it. I have had refund or exchange in the shops and also email correspondence which they took seriously.
I use a lot of Origins skincare and the counter at House of Fraser is brilliant - they will change anything, even if you just don't like it. They even changed something I had bought elsewhere.
I returned some Lancome skincare a few years ago because it caused sensitivity and there was such a fuss made. They refunded some of it but not other things, saying it couldn't have caused a problem. Perhaps I should have contacted them direct, instead of going to the shop.
Also had problems trying to return Aveda.
This is odd because they are owned by the same company as Origins.0 -
I have also returned many boots products, it's your right if the product doesn't do what it says it does then it's misleading the consumer, take it back.0

I've never taken a cosmetic or skincare item back that hasn't lived up to its claims.
But I applaud anyone who does.0 -
Makeup Alley is invaluable for cosmetic reviews. I think it has saved me lots of money and I have also discovered products that I would now not be without.

A poster above says they have been unsatisfied with Avon but have not sent items back. Avon have a 60 day (think it 60) money back guarantee. You can return stuff if you are not satisfied, even if you have used it. I think this is an excellent guarantee and have used it a few times - a no risk way to try something out even if you are dubious of its claims. BTW I am not employed or affiliated with Avon0 -
I contacted Urban Decay last year after a £12 eye liner broke constantly when sharpened. Very apologetic but wouldn't do anything and told me to return it to Boots. I hadn't got the receipts etc by that point so I didnt bother and just made the best of it, but next time I will return something I'm not satisfied.
Incidentally, top tip. Put your eye liners in the fridge for an hour before sharpening! Much easier and they sharpen to a better point0 -
I've bought cosmetics from QVC and have never had any problems returning anything and everything returned is refunded without any questions. Customers also post feedback about products and this is very useful prior to purchase.0

I recently bought a new 'battery' mascara from a well-known brand that I use a lot. Tried to use it twice and it was dreadful. I emailed the manufacturer who advised me to send it back to them freepost for 'testing'. They then sent me a voucher to purchase any item of the same value direct from themselves - I ordered a different product (that i have used before) which they posted out to me.
I was really impressed with the service I incurred no additional cost at all (no petrol to return it to the department store, no postage etc). Definatley restored my confidence in the brand (despite being a really useless mascara).
In the past I may have just binned a product like this but the converted money-saver in me just couldn't waste over £25.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Tixy what is a battery mascara (sorry if I sound thick)!!0
