Get your bedtime routine sorted and aim to wake up a little before your alarm HAS to wake you, it's much better to wake on your own rhythm than to be rudely awakened. If you're a dayshift worker, go to bed and get up at the same time every night/day, don't stay up really late at the weekends then lie in bed the next morning, it wrecks your sleeping pattern...
That is such a lovely idea, if you are able to live with a 24 hour pattern. Not everyone does - I do far better with a 27 to 29 hour pattern and I know I'm not the only one. I would love to live in the 24 hour world - but my mind doesn't let me - it's still active when I try to force it to sleep.

And working a 24 hour shift pattern, I have no hope.. iWakeUp makes getting up just that little bit less of a shocking experience.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm going to look into the app for my ipod it could be usefull when I am staying away from home too!

I really like the look of this one Comwales.com £46.23 - Naf Naf Sunrise Alarm Clock Radio thanks Beeniecat, but I did quite fancy an ipod docking one cos I could use it during the day too.

Beeniecat, can I ask how you found these please? Did you use a searcher that allowed you to look for a progressive alarm or were you just aware of these ones?

    Thanks again

    Hi,

I have one of these http://www.bodykind.com/product.asp?CatID=67&ProdID=463 as I didn't like the look of the ones with their own bulbs. This works with any lamp (it does have to have a standard bulb not the long life ones) and fades it up or down at the time you set. It does also have a sound alarm which is a kind of chirrup. I love it, it's much better than waking up in the dark to screeching which is what I hate about normal alarm clocks! And it's a bit cheaper than some of the alternatives.

I hope you find something you like.

Hi, i remembered seeing them during searches for othe clocks, but i hadn't bookmarked them and found them just by googling progressive / gradual / volume alarm clock radio and scouring the sites that appeared.

    Glad they helped though! :T

We use a Lumie Bodyclock Classic with Radio and that seems to be very effective, the only problem with it is that it gets really really hot when it comes on, so if you're sensitive to changes in temperature make sure it's not right on the edge of the bedside table closest to your face! The thing that annoys me about these is if you wake up when the light has JUST started to come on and you think "oh no, that means I have to get up soon..." :D
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D
