We got some tom plants from our local morrisons. The plants at ours are always well looked after (well much better than homebase or b&q lol). There are quite big and only 79p each.
Several variaties, shirley, beefsteak, cherry plus others I can't remember.
Mind you I then came home and counted up my exisiting toms and found I had 29 already rofl. Good job we all love toms. Dad accidently sowed about 50 lettuces, so has already donated 15 to me. Gonna donate a couple of toms to him as a swap lol.

It won't necessarily mean you will have bigger plants though.
I sowed chillies, peppers and tomatoes in March and April and the plants are the same size.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I am new to gardening too and my srping onions and chillis are also still tiny. My lettuce is growing slowly. I think it is a matter of being patient. My runner beans and radishes are going great though0

I sowed my tomato seeds in March indoors and one is now too tall for the staging it is sitting on and will have to be put on a stool. All the chillies germinated. I'm not bragging, just wondering what you are doing differently. Perhaps you are sowing them too deep, watering too much or not giving them enough warmth. Tomatoes must be one of the easiest plants to grow.0 -
Have seen some real progress in the last 3 days. Dont think they were in a particularly good place in the garden.
I am currently re-developing the whole garden which is rather large - has taken me over a year so far. Wish I had some pictures of before and during redevelopment but never mind.
Have also noticed that Wilkinsons seem to do a lot of cheap garden materials - anyone found this or disagree?
Also - what do you feed your vegatables??0 -

My plants apart from 10 are all outside or have been given away.
Of the ten still in the house 6 of them I have to hardened off and given away asap, and 4 were sown very late and are of a different type to the others.
I had no problems with them germinating (I have sowed about 36 plants) I was just surprised that the ones I sowed in March and April ended up being the same size.
Last year there was a remarkable difference between the different weeks sowing.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Been around to mum and dads today made us laugh.
He has always been into gardening and had a veg patch when we were kids. Recently in retirement he has concentrated on having a lovely garden to sit in and watch the birds (keen ornwatsit-birdwatcher to me and you lol). Last year he enjoyed growing some strawberries for the kids, I gave him some out of the ones I got cheap in Lidl and this year inspired by us he decided to get a few more foodie crops in......
Walked around the garden lettuce in this bed and another and another etc oh look in that pot lettuces, and in that one and the trough etc etc. Me and mum couldn't stop laughing wait she says and leads me to his small zip up greenhouse yes even more lettuces rofl. Gave him a tom and promised some cucumbers off my plants when they grow.
Mum says he is threatening to dig up a patch of lawn for spuds I said more likely lettuce.
