Hi Guys.

I'm in the market for a 37" LCD but unsure which to get. I will be using it mainly for gaming and streaming video through the Xbox 360, but also for freeview and DVD. Then possibly for Blu Ray if I can afford a player or a PS3 at a later date. Budget is around the £700 mark but cheaper if possible.
I've had a look round and found a few.

1. Samsung LE37B550

2. Sony KDL37V5500U

3. Samsung LE37A686M1F

I had links but it wouldn't let me post them, sorry, I'm too new here :P

At the moment i'm kinda veering towards the LE37B550 as it seems pretty good. 1080p, 24p, 50,000:1 Contrast. VERY reasonable price.

What would you guys recommend? Will the LE37B550 be any good for gaming in regards to lag etc.?

Any others you'd recommend that I haven't put on here?

Thanks

Chris

P.S. If this is in the wrong section, lemme know and I'll post it in te Techie forum.

Are you limited to 37"? For your budget you could go bigger without comprimising quality.

Personally, my Samsung 5 series hasnt let me down and gives you good value for money when you look at features v price. To be honest its very subjective and personal opinion will always differ. Read the reviews and if no known problems i'm sure you wouldnt be disappointed by any of those models.

Go for the Sony. Same panel as the Samsung but more reliable and a 3 year warranty.

I bought the Sony KDL32W5500U (different to the Sony one you've listed) 2 months ago.

It's a 32", 1080p, 80,000:1 contrast, 100hz with their new motionflow technology - I absolutely love it, the picture is amazing and you can pick one up now for under £640 - an absolute steal in my mind.

When I was in the market for a tv, I wanted a 37" too, but after seeing this 32" tv, I compromised on size for quality (I too didn't want to spend more than £700) and it's been the best decision I made - the equivilent 37" model was around £150 more at the time and I couldn't justify this extra amount for the sake of having a 37" tv.

So ask yourself if you "need" a 37" tv and if so, can your room take it? Personally, I'd only buy a 37" tv if you were going to be sat at least 4m away from it otherwise you'll find that your picture will look pixellated and you'll start to question the quality of the tv that you've bought!

Go for a Panasonic. I own a Panasonic analog(sp) and its 7 years old never broke down once. Really want to save for a 32 inch LCD one but boy are the expensive.

total rubbish !!! you do not need to be 4 meters away from a 37 " set .

A 37" wide screen LCD is about the equivalent of a old 32" CRT set . this is because it is the same height .

as for your picture looking "pixellated" well if you get something cheap and nasty then maybe , if you get a decent set then you have nothing to worry about .

i own a 37" inch Panasonic and only sit about 2.5 meters away from it and it just perfect , not to big not to small . and i have yet to see a pixallated picture out of it . oh and the HD on it is jaw dropping
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

I managed to get a 37" LG from Richer Sounds in store for £399 and £40 for a 5 year guarantee! Ok it's not 1080 but i've heard you need a 42" to actually make it worth while!

It's amazing on my xbox and has built in freeview which is good until we get Sky put in!
