Can anyone tell me how this is done, I am a little confused by the "transmitter" as not clear if they just let you listen to the radio using the ipod ear phones or if you can play music from the ipod on the car stereo

The transmitter allows you to listen to your ipod tunes through your car stero. NOT car radio through ipod. Think about it a car radio is only a receiver not a transmitter

You plug an FM transmitter into you ipod , set the frequency it transmits at, then tune your car radio into that frequency.

Or buy a new stereo with an ipod connection

I have one of these and it scans and stores 3 frequencies and you tune your radio to the strongest signal. The down side is that if you drive out of the local area the frequency you have tuned your radio to may be being used and then you have to retune your radio and transmitter to another free frequency!!

If you can get a car stereo with an input for mp3 or ipod then it is much more reliable.

I use my work's van occasionally which has a radio cassette, lol. So I use my Sony Ericcsson phone with a Sony Ericcsson transmitter to play MP3s, it's not ideal but it's ok.

I am of the opinion that it's better just to get a new stereo, that plays MP3 CDs and/or has a USB/SD socket.

You often find that the transmitter option isnt quite as good as plugging your mp3 player into a USB socket. There is always a bit of interference and most of the time the fidelity just isnt quite as good.

Then again it is what you want to get out of it really.

Did you put MP3s onto a USB memory stick? Or did you try to use the USB wire that you normally connect your ipod to your computer with?

You need to use a USB memory stick.
