Messed up on postage, what would you do?

Can you not split the item up, ie sold a bundle of clothes.
I did this twice last year, sold a boxes of kids clothes postage to outside the UK was around £40 by royal mail and i said postage was £25.
The both buyers did expect me to cover the rest, so i spit it in to smaller bundles
The other way is to just refund the item and say the postage is to much for you to cover.
Then if they leave neg FB just say demanded free postage outside the uk.I'm all ways having malteser moments thats me :doh:0 -
At the very least be honest, if you don't want to send it then don't send it, don't lie about it.
Anyway, this is actually two errors if you think about it, the first being the under calculation of postage, the second, and possibly more dangerous error being you ever considered surface mail as an option. Surface mail is far too slow for paypal , after 2 weeks your buyer is going ot be jumoing up and down and by week three or four they will have a protective paypal claim in.
Really for heavy items you need to be a bit more on the ball, if they are too heavy or will be too expensive to post safely then limit yourself to UK buyers only.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I assume you don't use ebay much?
Firstly, you want the poor seller to refuse to send it and then you want them to be a pathetic seller and leave retaliatory negative feedback.
I think I've just realised why ebay banned sellers from leaving a neg, it was to stop ridiciulous suggestions like this.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Since when did it become the norm to lie on ebay?
The op clearly states that she provided a postage quote for overseas buyers.
I think we need to start a new thread about when its not ok to lie and rip people off for the sake of feedback.0 -
Well - the question is how much is your feedback worth to you?
You can't guarantee it either way but you probably deserve at least neutral feedback if you cant deliver.
a) send it and bite the bullet
2) tell buyer the problem and offer them postage at lowest price (hunt around for quotes) or offer to cancel bid and leave them positive feedback
in the end - its up to you............... Have you ever wondered what

Why pick on me soolin when pinkshoes said
Tell the buyer the item has been broken/stolen/burnt in a fire/flood damaged, apologize, and issue them with a refund?
At saying The other way is to just refund the item and say the postage is to much for you to cover.
would me more to to the truth :rolleyes:I'm all ways having malteser moments thats me :doh:0 -
Exactly. its alright trying to get 'happy' customers, but at the end of the day we sell to make money. If telling a white lie is one way out then use it. If its good enough for places like play.com to cancel orders as they got the price wrong, why can't you?
Sure the buyer will be disappointed, esp if its a bargain, but phrase the response in such a way to make it sound you've done all you can and you'll both be happy.0 -
Wow. I can't believe all the people who would rather lie than tell the truth!!!.•

I wouldnt call defrauding someone of their money a 'white lie'. Just becuase they can claim a refund via paypal doesnt make it right does it.
Why dont you give me your credit card details so i can rip you off, after all you'll get your money back so no harm done eh.
The seller has the option of not sending the item so why lie just to protect their precious feedback which is meant to show how good a seller they are.
It amazes me that on a forum such as this there are so many people who would be willing to lie and rip someone off just to protect a made up system that has no real relevance.0 -
Take the hit and post it for the £16. It's a lesson learned and hopefully you won't make that mistake again. Buy some scales and use the Royal Mail site for accurate postage costs in future. This is not the buyers fault and you should accept responsiblity for your error.0
