Have you studied SAGE?

I was considering doing a SAGE course but I asked the organiser what previous qualifications you would need but he said he did not know and would find out for me. Two months later and he phones me yesterday to say the course is starting in a week, Tuesday 28th March, and he wanted to know if I want to enrol for the course. He still does not know what previous qualifications I would need.

All I know about this course is that it is supposed to be computerised accounts. Therefore I would imagine that you would need to have a qualification in accounts, although at what level I do not know and that you would also need to be familiar with an accounting computing programme?!?

Can anyone please tell me what program is used and what previous qualifications I would need or what qualifications would be an advantage to me?

Probably slightly late now as the course appears to start tomorrow...but I work in accounts and would have found it much easier to get a job if i had some SAGE exposure. SAGE is the computer programme, and the qualification would basically show you how to use it. You don't need any previous qual's - most people learn SAGE on the job with no formal teaching.

Having an interest in Accounts, and the ability to use a PC should see you right!

    Good luck!

THANKS for responding! I have decided to enrol for the course although I have not paid a fee yet, although I probably will have to tonight. Fingers crossed that I can manage it.

    Hi, Jo4

Did you enrol at the end? If yes, how the course is going.

I was in a similar situation some years back, but did not go on to a course (did not have money). Instead got a few books from a library, rung SAGE and asked for a demo disk. When a few years later I had Sage at work it was all nice and easy.

Why did you need SAGE anyway? To improve your CV or else?

    Cheers.

Sorry if my reply is late.

Yes, I enrolled for the course. The course is going alright so far.

The course cost £20 for everyone regardless of whether they were in receipt of benefits or not. There is 3 parts to the exam, the exam cost £33.25.

    hi there

i work work a eu prject which provides free computerised accounting classes (sage) we offer 2 level beginners which covers basic book keeping and sage level 1 and 2 the other course covers everything plus level three.

you do not need any previous qualifications but for some people a bit of basic accounting terminology might be an advantage but definately NOT necessary. you will do fine. good luck

Had first exam last night, you are allowed 10 minutes to read through it, then 1 1/2 hours to complete the exam and printing is allowed after that. I had exam finished and printing completed in less than 35 minutes. I will be patiently waiting on the results however or whenever I get them.

I hope I have passed as I did read through what I had typed but it doesn't sound good when I had nearly an hour to spare, there has to be some reason why they give you almost an extra hour!!

I've not done Sage, but I've done a lot of computer qualifications. I did one course of 3 units where each unit was supposed to take 40hours (ie 120 hours altogether!) and then another 2 hours each for the assessments, and I finished it in less than 12 hours!

They ususally do give far too much time to allow for things like slow computers which aren't really your fault

I hope this is the case for this course or I probably will have failed.

That is true for accounting exams in general as well - I had one a few days ago for which we had 3 hours + 15 mins reading time and it took me 90 minutes - and that was despite the fact I was deliberately taking it slowly!

    You'll be fine. :)

    THANKS! I really hope so!
