You didn't need to do this.
Your newly appointed supplier will contact your old supplier and arrange everything.
You'll probably get a 'sorry you are leaving us' letter once your new supplier has contacted nPower.

sorry i should have mentioned it was business electricity so we did need to write as had a contract.

Ah, a business account is different. Yes you were correct to write to them to cancel the contract.
As you sent the letter recorded delivery, just check in a few days that it actually gets delivered and keep a copy of that proof should difficulties arise later (the proof of delivery only stays on the website for a limited period - a year I think.)"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
