all the little things like HP sauce and carrots i can see the logic, almost, but who thought to add a can of corned beef to a bolognaise that already has steak mince in it???

It just adds a certain 'something'
I don't always add it to bolognese but I do to stew.

EDIT: a splash of soy sauce just before serving bolognese is great too!

I sometimes put bacon/ pancetta in mine, and/or anchovies sometimes. Don't really like sauces out of jars, they always taste a bit sweet to me. Having said that some of the Lloyd Grossman ones are nice, I like the putannesca and the one with vodka in it :D

When I lived in Cambridge we had a chinese shop at the end of the road and they had the most amazing packet noodles in there - my favourite was duck and spring greens :D:D:D

I used to wack them in my stirfrys and other meals when a student to bulk out the food cheaply - not very healthly though - scary amount of salt in

How daft do I feel? Went off for a walk up to town centre with Nathan for Farmers' Market but there was nothing set up so figured I had wrong weekend. Wasn't until I got home and HUbbles reminded me it is Friday today that I realised my mistake...:o:o:o Still, it was a lovely walk:D

Bolognese is better if left overnight then reheated with mushrooms added. I also add finely chopped celery and carrots with the onions, a tablespoon of tom puree, half teaspoon sugar, tablespoon garlic puree, tinned toms or passata and occasionally half a beef oxo. If the meat lacks flavour a tiny splash of fish sauce adds a nice savoury depth... Simmer slowly for 45mins, cool. Next day add mushrooms and reheat slowly until simmering. It's ready when mushrooms are cooked. (If you want to freeze a batch do it before mushrooms are added cos they can get a bit spongey and waterlogged!)

i make a cheap and quick spicy pasta sauce - fry til lightly soft 1 chopped onion, add 1/4-1/2 teaspn chilli flakes for about 1 min, add 1 tin of chopped tomatoes and simmer for about 20 mins til thick.

Add a small packet of chopped panchetta (about £1.20 for a double pack in tesco) which has already been fried and is crispy.

Stir sauce in pasta shapes of your choice.

I also grate a couple of mini baby bel cheeses as the melt in it like mozerella :D
