I bulk out curry for my family with veg, onions, corregttes peppers mushrooms celery( or anything ved wise that needs to be used up) then keep it in fridge or freeze it again for later use.
  • Thanks everyone! I haven't got any cornflour and the Tesco man is coming soon with the cream that I need, so I won't be able to get any either before making the curry tomorrow (I know I asked days ago, but that's my idea of being prepared  ).

I think I will just stick in a little extra water (maybe made into stock?) and a little extra cream and hope for the best. If it looks like there's not enough sauce still, I will add some tomatoes (is korma a tomato based dish?)

and thanks for the from scratch recipe. I will not buy any more jars. Naughty pollyanna! :p

Carrots and Onions usually go well with braising steak and sometimes I put this in a shallow casserole dish and when its cooked I put a suet pastry crust on top , OH calls it my Teviot Pie but I don't think its authentic.. but its delish..

My mum always used to add pearl barley to a beef stew. I'm not too keen on it TBH and have never used it so I'm not sure how much she added, but I'd guess maybe a good handful? This used to help it stretch quite far, along with carrots, onions and mushrooms.

I thanked you, but in reality there should be an 'unthank' button.

The thought of beef stew with pearl barley, is making me hungry!

Kidney - which is far cheaper than BS if you like it (makes the gravy really nice).
Dumplings or a Cobbler (plain scone mix) put on the top and cooked in the oven until brown - not as stodgy as Dumplings.
