Those sales pitches always makes me laugh.
I called Kays to make a payment, simple enough, eh? It took 15 minutes to make a payment to my account.
Me: Hi, I'd like to make a payment.
Kays: Ok. Can I have your card details?
Me: *card details*
Kays: Okay thank you. I'm just processing that now for you. While we're doing that, can I tell you about our PPI?
Me: No thank you.
Kays: Okay I understand sir but PPI will protect your account should you become unemployed and it will make payments to your account for you.
Me: No, I'm not interested.
Kays: It only costs 99p per £100 and the benefits are superb. We can activate that now for you and you will be protected instantly, should an emergency arise and you cannot afford to keep up the repayments.
Me: *sighs*, No!
Kays: Okay sir but you can sign up at any time should you change your mind. I'm looking at your account and see we have 3 special offers available to you. Can I tell you about them?
Me: No thank you, I'm in a rush.
Kays: Okay but you can purchase a TomTom from us at a special offer of £150. Would you be interested? I can have that ordered right now.
Me: No.
Kays: Okay sir, also we have a pack of bedsheets that will interest you at an amazing price of £30. Would you be interested?
Me: No I'm NOT interested in anything you're trying to sell me.
Kays: Okay well your payment has just this second gone through, is there anything else I can help with?

This is where you go wrong. You should try something along the lines of "My circumstances mean that I would not be eligible to claim on PPI should the need arise. Besides it's far too expensive."Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
I'll take a note of that next time I get someone trying to sell me PPI. I absolutely hate when they do that though, if I wanted PPI, I'd have taken it when opening the account.

Interested in your 'experience' with Barclaycard. They outsource a lot of their card activation calls to a company who specialises in identity protection and card protection, so whilst the cards are initially blocked I do wonder what the motivation for them outsourcing to a insurance provider could be...mmmm.
.
Sorry, thats not true. They do outsource but its a normal contact centre outsourcing company. Barclays then give this company sales targets to meet - usually higher than their own staff achieve. But it is all about money and getting people to buy stuff.2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0 -
Hi, please excuse, i'm still a relatively new poster, & quite awhile lurker.
I normally respond to the first suggestion of someone selling me PPI by stating that "I would be unprepared to commit to anything on the phone and can read the print on my agreement, and would nevertheless shop around for a more competive price for protection." Normally works when you can get heard.
On two other occasions however, Barclaycard & Halifax were pushy recently. BC oversold the identity theft protection and card protection (I think both products were from was CPP, and papwerwork confirmed this, but ok to cancel) which I took to shut them up and Halifax were sticking to script regardless, so I had a lovely daydream.
I ring cause I would hate to look a fool at a checkout if my card wasn't activated.

I've always punched numbers into a computer when activating cards. Perhaps I am the lucky one!I'm going for my QuidCo £million!

They always say things like
"if you take this out then if your card gets used by someone then we'll cancel it straight away, you won't have to pay a penny and we'll send you a new card straight away."
I always say "but I get that anyway"
and they say "er... you might not"
I hate it when people try to sell you your legal rights as a reason to buy something.0 -

Thanks for the correction...I checked up with my 'contact' and what I said is half true (apologies). The majority of the partnerships business (that's Thomas Cook, Argos and Skycard) are outsourced to an insurance specialist who manage their activation calls (CPP). The Barclaycard branded Barclaycards are split, with some going to CPP but the majority going to a normal contact centre outsourcing company. If anyone has both it'd be interesting to see how the two compare.0 -
I remembering telling someone I wouldnt qualify for PPI because I didnt work enough hours
"Have you considered working a few more hours?"
was their unbelievable response

MBNA persisted with trying to sell me PPI when I called to activate a Play.com card the other day - even though they know, because of my other CC's with them, and I told them again, I'm medically retired, cannot work, will never be able to work again, have multiple disabilities and no insurance company would cover me for not being able to make payments because of sickness or unemployment - I'm not eligible!
She just said it was a real shame that I was so willing to leave myself unprotected, and that she could activate the insurance right now for me, so that I would have peace of mind lol:rolleyes:
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0
