I've managed to get a guest bed from Freecycle which I collect tomorrow.
How can I clean the matress efficiently? I saw this on 'How clean is your house' once but I can't remember what she used to do it.
Any ideas?

I'd like to know this too.
I would probably guess that you will have to give it a good hoover, but not sure what else you would need to do.Newtonlot on an MSE mission0 -

A steam cleaner would clean it and kill any bugs in it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

i use my steam cleaner
but if you havent got one this is what kim & aggie suggest :
"Remove marks from a mattress by using upholtery cleaner (or a drop of concentrated washing up liquid) in a bowl of water.whisk rapidly then use just the suds to remove marks.Pat the mattress dry using a towel
Another way to freshen the mattress is to sprinkle bicarb on it to absorb odours.leave for a couple of hours then vacuum off "0 -
I asked this question before and found the best way of freshening up a matress is with good old white vinegar! Put it in a spray bottle and apply so the surface is damp. Let it dry and after a couple of days the vinegar smell has gone. For stains i have used the house hold soap method. I found that steam made the matress worse and took a long time to dry and bicarb made the fabric stiff. Hope this helps.0

Remember, when you do clean your mattress, stand it on its side, leaning forwards slightly, so that it doesnt wet the springs inside, which can then take ages to dry!!!!0

Thanks all, I'm reluctant to try the vinegar but I may give it a go and see what happens! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I normally use vinegar if there have been 'accidents' (luckily DS and DD have stopped now!!! although the odd bought of sickness does happen) as the vinegar (or bicarb) is very good at neutralising smells, so if the mattress comes to you smelling ok, you prob wont need it.0
