Problem with O2

I have been trying to cancel my contract with O2 for a few weeks now after having a lot of problems with them, missing payments, overcharging me to name a few. They told me that i could not cancel my contract as i had not paid my line rental since October 2008, however i have paid my bill each month. Should my line rental not have been included with my bill?? I am confused as to why they have not contacted me earliy if the line rental has not been paid for seven months

Anyone shed any light on this??
