Carphone warehouse rip-off

My wife and i purchased new Lg mobiles in January and mine has developed a fault. It keeps on turning itself off, even when it is fully charged and won't re-boot properly.
So, i went to take it back earlier this week and was told they would'nt swap it as i had'nt returned it within 28 days of purchase.
They said that all they could do was return it to Lg, as, get this, the manufacturer likes to check faulty phones(more like Carphone warehouse does'nt like giving out replacement handsets) and it will be gone for 14 days. When i rang their help line i was told the same.
This phone is 4 months old and the fault has been happening for about 2 months now, but i've been living with it.
I did stress to the bloke in the shop that i was pretty sure it was law to swap out faulty items, as they had sold me a faulty phone.
The guy had obviously had this dodgy rule drummed into him, as he just kept on repeating it.
Can anyone help, i realy don't want to be without a phone for so long. Plus they have annoyed me so much, i really want to stick it to them.
To be honest i feel like getting a full refund, but of course, you only get one of those within 28 days:doh:
So if you do have any nuggets of wisdom, they would be much appreciated.

Much as I dislike CPW, they are acting within their rights to offer a free repair, no " Rip - Off "..
If you purchased a new car in January, you wouldn't get a free replacement if it went wrong in May..0 -
Agreed, I work for a mobile phone company and this policy is the same.
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
The first 28 days you will likely get a direct replacement. After that, the phone will have to go in for repair. Like Inactive said, you are not being ripped-off at all - that's just standard procedure.0

I see what your saying, but then you would get a replacement car while yours was being repaired, would'nt you. Plus a car is a bit more difficult to refurb and re-sell as new, which we know mobile firms do with returned phones.
I have actually sussed how to get a new phone out of them. Let them take it off me for the 14 days. When i get it back, if there is still a fault, they have to swap it, which CPW have stated.
Saying that though, it still does my head in i've spent nearly £100 and there's no goodwill there.
Thanks everyone for your help0 -
Unfortunately Carphone Warehouse will not swap your handset if it goes faulty within 14days from repair (afaik no mobile phone retailers offer this), they will send it for repair again.
They do offer loan handsets normally though.0 -

No not always, only if the dealer has a courtesy car available.0 -
they will send it for repair 3 times before they will swop it! thats the same with most phone companys however if u have insurance u can claim on that for a replacement0
