but dont know why they would lie.
If she has got herself in some sort of trouble the less people who know where she is the less chance there is of the trouble catching up with her. Maybe if she has had problems with her family or a partner she's decided to get away and doesn't want anyone to know where she is?

They do,do a Witness Protection scheme in this country but only if the life is endangered after giving evidence against a prolific danger.

Her family other than husband and children would only know of her whereabouts as they woudl have to enter the scheme also,if they havent then they also would be unaware of where she is.

Maxine Carr was/is under the scheme but only as for people to be aware of where she is would endanger her life. the same as the Jamie Bulger case, those Men are also under the scheme.

I think it sounds like she has gone away and given this as an excuse.

are you sure that she HAS gone away??. dont you think its strange from what her brother has said?

i would be quite concerned to be honest, maybe call the police to tell them you r concerns about her disappearing and the fact her 'brother' took her there. i know they wont be able to tel you if she is, but im guessing they could confirm that she is at least alive............................

Witness protection is a short term scheme whilst something goes to court. I have never heard it called Witness Protection in this country. Protection of people released from prison is a different scheme, albeit exactly the same idea only longer term.
