Not to sure I completely would agree about the previous post on BB dates - but anyway...
We BMGMF at the tightus house and keep the overflow in the garage!
However, we appear to have adopted a little guest - Small nibble holes in our walkers crisps (TEsco BMGMF) and Cadburys Chocolotae mini rolls (other crisps and rolls are available)! Need to find somewhere that does mouse traps at BMGMF now!!!0 -

Be warned though the BOGOF on fresh produce in particular is usually a con (IMHO).
A prime example is fresh pre-packed salmon fillets. In Sainsburys this seems to be on perpetual special offer typically BOGOF, 2 for £6, 50% off, 100% extra free etc.
I suspect offers like BOGOF allow them to argue that it was at a higher price for 28 days for the "50% off" to be legitimate legally. So provided you don't mind multi-buy you never pay full price for salmon, but like MFI you are always left with the [false] impression it's a bargain.
Non perishables tend to be more realistic promotions, but the price DOES rise (usually to full RRP) prior to the BOGOFs kicking in.
Regarding offers moving between supermarkets, this is true. Typically it's the manufacturer who "pays" for the discount / BOGOF. Their sales people have particular budgets and targets. If all supermarkets ran the same promotion it's a big cost to the manufacturer, they'd struggle to supply the demand (empty shelves are a big no-no), and no supermarket would have a competitive advantage. However by negotiating with a couple of supermarket chains their sales leap up, they can get prominent displays and everyone's a winner. Then a few weeks later they can go through the same exercise with a rival chain. It also allows them to pick and choose when to target supermarkets, you wouldn't want Pepsi and Coke on BOGOF at the same time in the same shop.
I've worked on a couple of computer systems that deal with these type of promotions. One for a retailer and the other a manufacturer. It's quite an eye opener when you realise how much these promotions cost the manufacturer. Typically for a successful BOGOF it's the manufacturer who pays for all of the "One Frees" plus an additional amount if they want special displays, end gondalas in the supermarket. In return all the supermarket has to do is meet the sales targets, and pay for the promotion of the offer. It's only when the supermarket doesn't meet the target that the manufacturer can claw some of the money spent back.

In tescos coke is £2.29 bogof on 6 packs,so 24 cans=£4.58.Yet the 24 packs are £6.95,so who in their right mind is going to buy the 24s packs?.Is the shelf life lower on the bogof 6 packs than the 24s??.0

Mt local store has now got used to me buying 24 boxes of washing powder or dishwasher tablets when they are on BOGOF.0

24 boxes of dish washer tablets!!! That's an aweful lot of dish washing.
Anyway, I have to say that I often see the same offers in other supermarkets that I do in my local Morissons rather than see them on rotation. And it's true that the supermarkets do not pay for the special offers, it's the manufacturers of the product. What I did hear on a program on supermarkets was that quite often the supermarkets are powerful enough to force some manufacturers to give them their products at half price so that they can do a promotion instore. That's daylight robbery. I don't think special offers promote brand loyalty to be honest. I think they promote supermarket loyalty. It's a win win situation for the supermarkets.0 -

Quite so....and don't forget frozen MAMMOTH is a delicacy in Siberia....when you are lucky enough to chance upon one freshly washed out of a glacier..... tell THAT to the kids when they are complaining that the date on the meat is past!
Seriously though I only ever buy meat marked down, or BOGOF's all goes straight in the freezer. My friend cases the sell by dates on the specials and goes back to see if they have marked it down to clear on the last day
