Don't be fooled by BOGOF

I never ever fall for the BOGOF trick, do the retailers think we are mad?

I go for BMGMF (Buy Many Get Many Free), it's the same but better.
Look at best before dates, work out how much you can use (and use your experience to anticipate when it'll next be BMGMF).

I appreciate cashflow can be a problem, but spending one to get two can be good value even if you have to pay interest on a credit card.

Mike

LOL this is what we do. I stock up on loads of BOGOF and Morrisons usually get the same things back in stock after a few months. WE dont have much room in kitchen so they go in the shed.

Things we got of later are Libbys C juice, Ribenia, Blue Ribbons, Kit kats, fizzy drinks, hot chocolate, soaps, coffee. Loads more, I get these for as long as offer is on usually about 4 weeks or so and get 4 or more items per week depending on what it is. Libbys C I get 12 cartoons in a box as kids drink that, and go through 5-6 cartons a week.

I was so tempted to get the diet cokes, but am trying to cut down big time!

I do like the chicken tonight and uncle ben sauces, though.

Ive noticed many of the offers also rotate with the difference supermarkets

e.g Innocent smoothies - on offer at tesco once this offer ends try sainsburys their offer will normally start on the same product within 2 weeks of tescos ending or vica versa which ever way you want to look at it.

same goes for cereals, tea etc, so keep an eye out and you dont have to go overboard on everyday items
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T

Argh yes I bought some Colgate last week on BOGOF at Morrions. We have stacks of coffee in shed (mellowbirds) and the capochino coffee whch was on offer. I always find Tesco rubbish on offers though, Sainsburys not much better either, although food is great.

Why are we so beset with Best Before dates. Before they were imposed on us by the EU every one knew that canned food or for that matter bottled food were designed to last years. Just look at the dates on a pet love of mine Corn Beef it is 4-5 years. So OK it may loose some of its flavour but are you really bothered.
When helping in a catering situation the camp caterer was sad to throw away so much ffod because HE HAD TOO! Why becasue it did not have a BBE on the catering cans even though the contents were fine. One can of Colmans mustard was 10 years old but still tasted fine - but it still had to go. He told me some dried food improve with time, dId I believe him - a definate yes.
Frozen food - after a delicious Easter meal of Roast Lamb at home we were told that it was 17 years old, Who would have believed it - it tasted as if it was frozen a week ago i.e. fresh!
I state the case of a recent deal they had in Farmfoods. 10 cans of Heniz soup for £1 I bought them and am still using them even thought he BBE is November 2005. tastes fine to me. Or Cheese I recently opened a packet of cheese with a BBE of Oct 2004 did it taste yukky or was it mouldy NO - cheese lasts. Just cut off the edge and eat.
If anything it means that dim-witted people are throwing out food which is perfectly fine and therefore spending more than need.
There I've had my say Long live the BMGMF.

I agree we do waste a lot of food, must admit I am guilty too. Sometime I throw food out a day or two late mainly because I have s sensitive tum.
