Changing Mobile Phone Tarriff - Will this work for Iphone?

I have been a T-Mobie customer for about 5 years in total, this isn't some kind of loyalty thing they have just had the best tarriff for my needs in the last few years.

I am on the flext price plan where i get something like 800 mins 1900 texts or a mixture of the two, i'm paying about £30 per month.

I'm coming to the end of that contract and now my circumstances have changed and there is no way that i need that amount of usage. I have seen their SIM only deal which gives 600 mins and unlimited texts and internet usage for £20 per month.

Iwas wondering if i could buy an iphone privately, have it unlocked to be SIM free and then use the new T-Mob SIM for its unlimited internet in conjunction with the Iphone.

Will this work?

if you can get an unlocked iPhone, then probably.. however, if you're thinking of buying an iphone, and then unlocking it, don't get too hopeful, only one kind of iphone 3g can be unlocked, and due to a baseband update, that locked out the newer versions, which iPhones are coming with nowadays.

but just don't ever update the iphone, or you'll be left with an ibrick

You will need to deffinatley have the SIM unlocked and on a contract. You will also need to make sure you have a good data plan for the connectivity to the Internet you will need to check for email and browse etc.

It should be fine in theory unless there are any specific unlocks that are required for the iPhone.

This may be risky as you wouldn't want to risk not being able to update the iPhone or void any warranty you might have, etc.

Thanks for the replies on this one. I dont know that much about jailbreak etc but i wasn't looking to void any warranty or do anything too dodgy to be honest.

At the same time there is no way i'm moving to an expensive tarriff on o2 just to get the iphone, I dont want one that badly.

Might I suggest looking into the Google Andriod.

Awesome phone, not as "flashy" as the iPhone but if you like gadgets and getting lots of apps that do cool stuff then it's great!!

Also if you are NOT an Apple advocate (such as myself) it's a great way of sticking it to the man ;)

If you really do want a legally unlocked iPhone 3G then Play.com are selling them. They are not cheap though!

    iPhone 3G 8GB for £549.99 - http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/9352145/Apple-iPhone-3G-8GB-Sim-Free-Unlocked-2-0-Megapixel-Mobile-Phone/Product.html

why not jsut buy a payg one from 02, i assume thats what you were going to do? and then buy and o2 sim only and get the internet "bolt on" for free. so you get the same thing without paying for unlocking and the risk of an ibrick as mentioned lol.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Cheers I didn't think about that.

I'll check out how they compare to the T-mobile SIM only deals.

If i go this route could i migrate my current mobile number?

Android is a nice Mobile OS, but it needs a decent handset.

Google had a net income of $4.2 billion last year, so they're not exactly a worker's co-operative.

If you go from flex to a T-Mobile sim only - I was told from T-Mobile that you can not keep your number because you were not migrating it? So if that is true then the option to go O2 (where i assume you can migrate) may be the only option if you want to keep your number?
