Vodafone charging for monthly bills

In with my bill this month was a letter advising me that Vodafone are to start charging £1.50 a month for paper bills but advising that I could opt for online billing only and avoid the charge. Just wanted to highlight this in case people weren't aware.

Not that they're making it easy to opt for online billing though as yesterday I logged onto my account to register for online billing only but kept getting an error message when trying to select the online billing only option. The message said I could email or call instead so I duly sent a email to say I wanted to cancel paper statements and opt for online billing only. I've just received their reply....

Good morning XXXXX,
Hope you are doing fine.
I understand from your email that you are unable to view your bills onto the online account. Let me see how I can help you.
XXXXX to view your bills online, you need to have the online billing service activated onto your online account. I have checked your online account and can see that the online billing service is active onto your online account.

Vodafone are completely (un)helpful in all things. Their primary objective appears to be to waste as much of their customers' time as they possibly can. Wonderful for a "communications" company, don't you think??

Started a 12 month contract with vodafone in Aug 2008 - think within first 2 months, I noticed the £1.50 charge.

I also registered online but then my paper bill stopped.

I phoned up and nice lady cancelled my online account, then I get paper bill (need it for cashback).

The £1.50 is for itemised billing so I cancelled itemised billing - so I now get a plain paper bill - no cost to me.

Suprise, suprise - a paper bill arrived today complete with a charge for said bill

Tried for 3 hours to get through on the phone but have finally given up and sent an email.

Would be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem??

    Hi there,

Me too. Tried numerous times to sign up online, it says I already have but can't get into the account!

Tried customer services, put me through to various depts who said they don't deal with this type of thing and got cut off. More than once!

Will try emailling them and see what they say. Will post back if I hear anything but no-one hold their breath!!

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok - they know me here! :D

    I got the following reply

I understand from your email that you want to cancel the itemised billing on your account. Let me help.
Mrs. Carney, having checked your account I can see that the itemised billing was cancelled on 19th June 2009. As a good will gesture I've reimbursed the charges of £1.28 (without Vat). You will be able to see this adjustment in your current month's bill. The credit balance on your account is £26.22 which will be debited by direct debit on or after 01 July 2009.
I trust the above information is helpful.
    Kind regards,

It wasn't cancelled on the 19th June, I never even logged into my account that day as I couldn't remember my password and their password reminder system was down! It was cancelled on 20 May but as they have refunded it I don't think it's worth emailing them to clarify .
