  • Just a thought - I phoned Barclaycard yesterday to threaten to close my card. I got put through to "customer loyalty" and said I just wasn't getting anything useful from them and I was planning on taking my business elsewhere. She dropped my rate to 14.9 from 19.9 there and then. Maybe worth a go? She also asked if I had any balances to transfer since I clear my balance every month now (good girl, lesson learned!) as they would be on promotional rates too.

I just thought if you were going to try this it is worth seriously threatening. You might even be able to wangle a better deal than I got ... for example if your cards are not at their limits you could shift balances back and forwards between them rather than getting new cards.

    Good luck

I would guess that they would call my bluff as I only pay the minimum payment at the moment.

Could someone tell me if it is worth appealing to consolodate my debts. I feel that this is the best option for me. i have cut the credit cards up, to avoid further spending and am cutting back (eg i now make my lunch in work as opposed to spending £3.50 per day) The problem now is that my credit is poor and i cant really apply for anymore loans!! any ideas?

do you actually have £389 each month spare to pay off the credit card debts?

Which I am going to increase the payments but the apr seems incredibly high on my credit cards! Thought consolodation would be better?

    just my thoughts

i think you could try getting EGG to change their mine by explaining about the incorrect credit record.

i also think you could try writing to Orange and formally asking for compensation as the incorrect entry has caused you to have cheap credit facilities refused and so leaving you to pay much more interest (try working out an amount...be reasonable but worth a try.)

i wouldn't try for any more credit for at least 6 months to allow your record to improve and only then try one at a time.

start snowballing by targetting your highest APR card debt.

    best of luck

Having just had to get 8 errors sorted on my credit report (don't ask lol) I would suggest getting a letter from Orange to confirm what they did and have done since (ie. mistake and rectified it with dates) and then contact the credit agency to tell them you have this letter and its affected your applications.

What they can do is put a Notice of Correction on your report and copy this to all those you've applied to in the last 6 months. I doubt they'd put detail (infact on mine it made it look even more suspicious) but it does mean you could then contact say, the last 1 or 2 and explain what's now on your report, the written confirmation from Orange, the letter they'd have received from the credit ref agency and would they reconsider you for a loan in light of this information.

    Hope that makes sense!

i was going to just send a letter to egg and cahoot with an explanation of what has happened! should i try to get the letter from orange first and contact experian to tell them of what has happened? or should i just go ahead and contact egg and cahoot with my letter and credit report??

better to get a letter from orange...its always better to have something in writing if possible in which case I'ld hold back on the demand for compensation..leave that until later.
does your experian credit record show the Orange situation or is it clear. you do NOT want a statement of correction , you want it removed ..if it is clear then thats fine. how old are your other entries, it may simply be they havenot dropped off yet (six years I think but not sure). I see no purpose in writing to experian at this stage unless the orange entry hasnt been removed.
as far as egg/cahoot is concerned i'ld only write to one initially stressing that you didnot know about the orange problem and so thats why you applied for all those loans. leave the other until you get a reply from orange..keep all options open

dont forget to snowball your worst APR loan and don't apply for any more loans/cc for at least six months..

edited: PS by the way check the other two credit agencies also
