The simple answer is a hell of a lot.
From Windows Vista to Yahoo Applets problems are many.
I have managed to avoid Windows Vista so am thankfully free from that disaster but still suffer many problems with Internet Explorer 8 one of which is not being able to access Yahoo Games Applets. I am of course at fault for upgrading from IE 7; lesson learned, NEVER UPGRADE.
The first engineer available online to solve these problems will get a Noble Prize. :j:kisses:

One of these should do the trick:
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
http://www.apple.com/uk/safari/
http://www.google.co.uk/chrome
http://www.opera.com/0 -
I would second Firefox0

Look inwards before outwards. Thinking Vista is a disaster destroys any argument you may haveIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
Never be the first to upgrade is probably better advice-otherwise you'd still be using a Spectrum !
I leave it a good six months before upgrading to new versions of windows/explorer/firefox etc and I've never had a major problem as by then the niggles have been ironed out by those desperate to have it first.
As for Vista-I use both XP and Vista both have good points -both have features the other operating system does better. I also troubleshoot for both at work and neither is signifantly more prone to issues than the other in my experience. The XP v Vista debate for the general user is a non issue for me-except when troubleshooting for the truely clueless -in which case Vista wins out as it's more user friendly(not better just easier to navigate them around)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I agree... To me, companies like Microsoft have a lot to answer for because they push crap under-developed tools out to people like us on the cheap. And we get used to it.
Computers should really cost more - like Apple. And the software should be more free stuff, like Google Apps, Firefox etc.

That doesn't make any sense.0 -

It seems to me he's advocating both a computer market that isn't an insane scrabble to the bottom as though it's some sort of "let's see who can built the cheapest nastiest computer" competition, and open source software.
Seems pretty reasonable to me.0 -
Wow! Ty all for replying :T

I already have google chrome and firefox. The applet problem is solved when I use chrome. A problem that google chrome and firefox have is that the fonts are poor quality - they look short of pixels and are jagged on the home pages although in the game they are ok.

The problems with Vista were very bad, a microsoft trained engineer said he spent nearly all his time at customers rectifying problems.

Sound advice, I stupidly upgraded to IE8 automatically when prompted. Keeping fingers crossed service pack 3 doesn't cause any problems, does it? _pale_Rob0 -

The off the shelf computer market isn't just polarised though. Not all computers fall into the 'expensive' or 'cheap' category. Likewise with software, whilst the OSC has produced a lot of functional software, when you start comparing key software titles with the paid for equivalent then the paid for is light years ahead in design and function, i.e. Open Office vs. Microsoft Office.0
