I currently have my car insurance with Swift. It is up for renewal next month. Ive just done a search on confused.com, and swift has come up as the cheapest for me at £170. However Swift has emailed me my renewal notice and its quoted £203! Is it charging me more because Im an existing customer and not a new customer? If so, shall I move away or contact them and threaten that Ill move away unless they reduce the price? Is there room to haggle when it comes to something as important as insurance - Im sure the answer is yes!

Yes. Last year you got an introductory discount that you don't get this year.If so, shall I move away or contact them and threaten that Ill move away unless they reduce the price? Is there room to haggle when it comes to something as important as insurance - Im sure the answer is yes!
Give it a try, they might only match the next best price. If they say no, then you can just move! Remember to notify them in writing that you won't be renewing if they have an automatic renewal clause.0 -

No its the other way round. They are charging new customers less. Possibly even running first year at a loss. Discounting in year one is very common.and threaten that Ill move away unless they reduce the price?
You can try it. It works sometimes with some companies as the individual or their supervisor may have some discretion. Is there room to haggle when it comes to something as important as insurance - Im sure the answer is yes!
Sometimes there is, sometimes there isnt.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Much better explanation!0 -
they did the same thing with me last year so i phoned them and told them and the customer services department told me to cancel my renewal and then just start again with them, i still have the same log in so nothing much has changed apart from the cost!
hope this helps0 -
As previous posters have noted they have discounts for new customers which are subsidised by existing customers. You may also find that the new quote you have has a larger excess than your existing quote as the Insurers on comparison sites tend to quote with large excesses to get their quotes to the top of the list.
If you do decide to go with tyhe cheaper Swift quote make sure the total excess (Compulsory and Voluntary added together) are the same or less than your current excess.
Personally I would recommend you move away from Swift, do a search of MSE and you will find a lot of negative posts about their claims services0 -
Thanks for your comments. Ill try with another insurance company I think!0

Did you find the Swift "Fan Club" on MSE then?0
-
Hah! No, I didnt find their fan club, I just want to save money!0

Don't forget to click through Quidco to actually BUY your new insurance, rather than through the link on the insurance comparison website you are using.
That way you will get the (upto £100) commission on the sale, rather than the comparison website, which, of course, exists only to earn the website owners commission and NOT to find you the best price for your insurance. Don't forget that important fact!!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
If you take withabix's advice, please remember to delete your cookies and get re enter your quote details through the cash back site.
Bear in mind that sometimes the cash backs do not come through. so don't buy a policy solely on the cash back incase in does not come through. Look at the cash back as a bonus0
