HELP!home contents insurance claim HELP!

Hi there just trying to get some advice, I was broken into just around 4weeks ago they took 99% electricals (television, laptop, consoles and so on) dvd's a bit of gold & silver, my insurance company sent a lady out a week later which i provided as much as i could now ive had my own home for 11years and the jewlrey some was over 7years old all the consoles around 3years old the laptop and my camcorded were brought out the paper, I do not keep recipts after a year unless i buy extended warrenty which i only had on my sat nav (luckerly was in glove box in car) I did have the box's to my sons consoles also the manuals to my sterio some of the box to my televison upstairs but my teleivison downstairs was imported from china and paid by weston union 2years ago (ive wrote to weston union and they have sent me a letter stating the payment i made to china) i had a tiffany set (had box's for that) had photos of my son where you can just see the corner of the television down stairs on the wall (clearly a plasma) also a jar of £2 coins can just see that but only just, i gave a list of most of my dvds but theres no way i can remember them all (its stupid) also i gave the insurance woman 9 contacts of which brought a puppy from me last september totel adding to over £5k which 1200 was in a tin on the cupbored, she asked me why i had so much money, well ive always had at least 400ish in the house and as the banks were in such a mess last year and the country i didnt put any money into savings! also feel they didnt pay much attention as on the first list i wrote i put my sons Nintendo DS Lite (as couldnt find it) but we did find it he had it under hes pillow and i clearly told her that it was found! I got a letter last week asking for recipts of items she had already seen photos or box's or manuls for and had told her all were over a year old some 3years old and ie never kept recipts afer a year (after all who thinks there going to be a victum of a brake in) then there was the matter she asked for the NINTENDO DS LITE recipt WHICH id clearly told her a week earlyer was found! What else can i do ??? i feel she hasnt listen?? My son and i are both so upset by all this, also i had to borrow money as mine was stolen and promised to pay back with in a month, ive now had anoughter letter stating they are going over my claim again as company proceder its been 5weeks what can i do ????

sorry so long xx

Home insurance normally has a limit for cash of between £250 and £750 (Sometimes its higher) but its more likely to be between £250 and £500 so I doubt you will be able to claim all of the cash you have lost.

To pay a cash claim they will normally want proof you had the cash, this would typically be a recent wage slip showing you were paid in cash, a bank statement or atm slip showing you had just drawn out cash etc. So to claim for the cash you will need to give the Insurers some kind of documentry proof you had the cash. They may accept newspaper adverts for the pups but I would not gurantee it.

I had problems with RSA last year after a flood, dont let them get away with it. They will see you as a vunerable person and try and give you as little as possible. Dont let them do it. Write down everything that has gone and how much the items were. Then check your policy. Some policies will only offer a price on the on the condition and age of the old item. Some policies offer new for old. You then need to phone them in the morning and tell them you are not happy and you want to complain as nothing has moved on. Tell them you are in hardship and they are adding the problem. DO NOT let them ignore you and tell you they will get someone to phone you back, because the chance is they wont. You want the name of the person who is dealing with your claim and their phone number. If they won't give it you then tell them you want to speak to a team leader or manager, they should give you this information. Once you get to speak to the person who is dealing with your claim, ask them what the hold up is. Tell them you want to make a complaint as it is taking too long. Tell them you are also going to speak to the Financial Ombusdsman as there is nothing happening. The FO governs the insurance industry and can fine them if they are not fulfilling their requirements. See what happens.

You need to go through the insurers own complaints procedure before the FOS will get involved.

Plasma tvs have been phased out as LCD tvs are technically better and last longer.
