Hi - Looking at my son's forms for next year it seems to have changed, yes I know its possibly been in the news, but I have slept since then, he is on Y3 of a 4 year undergraduate course, this year at work placement. As we both work, he only gets the unaccessed basic loan, but it looks less, or is it me not having time to read it correctly?0

Hi
I have an outstanding SL from 20001/2002. Will this block OU funding? (Am 40 now; did 2 years of Fine Art degree, then had to leave due to health. Hoping to take spanish studies further.) Have contacted OU, but not heard anything back.
Thanks, Cat0 -

I'm starting a year in industry this year (Paid - YAYAYAYAY!) and i was wondering if there is any support avaliable. My Household income is well below all thresholds, and looking at the student loan form there is no where to put in MY earnings....
any idea?
cheers!
Back in 2000-2001 I was on placement and if I remember rightly the loan entitlement was significantly lower (due to it being a year in industry, not because of the salary) but I was still liable for 50% of the tuition fees. Not sure if rules have changed since then but it's worth pursuing anyway.Cider Country Solar PV generator: 3.7kWp Enfinity system on unshaded SE (-36deg azimuth) & 45deg roof0 -
Hi there
My daughter has received the application pack to fill in for next year (the 2nd yr of her course). As we didnt want her to be landed with a huge loan, my husband and I are paying her fees and her keep (she lives at home). We were told to fill in the forms last year as if we hadnt the college fees would have been more expensive. This year they were about £1200. My question is, is this information correct? Should I bother filling in the forms this year? We will be paying for everything she needs but will the fees be higher?
Many thanks0 -
Hi slcworker,
My son needs to get out of the final term of his contract with halls of residence.
I looks like the only way may be to withdraw from the course, renrole after a week or so, when the contract is terminated.
How will this affect the paperwork for his loan,, a break of about 10 days?
will it be loads of paperwork?? WE hate  paper work.
thanks0 -
Hi, I've been lurking for a while but this is my first real post so be kind!
I will be a final year student in the academic year 2006/07 and was wondering if you could tell me what the non-means assessed loan is for final year students? Is this paid in three equal installments or is the summer installment lower/non-existant?
Help would be much appreciated.

Hi
I have a student loan going back to my 4 years at Glasgow 1992-96. I have only had a very brief period in which I was over the threshold for repaying it and I am now a full time Mum so not earning anything. Will the debt stay with me forever or does there come a point when they say forget it?0 -
hi - hope you can help - my OH was a PGCE student in 03/04. We supplied all the correct information in relation to the loans etc which we duly received. Yesterday we received a letter from Student Loans saying we had been overpaid by £3,600 and giving us 12 days to pay it in full! There were no details with the letter as to why or how the calculation had been made. On phoning we spoke to a really stroppy guy who refused to give us any further information (you can imagine the panic we were in at this point) saying he had no details (cannot believe that). Anyway, he told us to phone our LEA but would not tell us which dept or who to speak to. Eventually got through to someone who said they were missing a form which should have been sent to them. My OH pointed out that we had filled in ALL the forms which had been requested. They are sending out a new form but we are absolutely livid about the way this has been handled and worried sick about having to find this sort of money in such a short time. It was 2 years ago - if they realised they were a form missing why do they not write to you first instead of just assuming and sending out these frightening letters. Also, do you think we will have to pay this money back if its their mistake and two years ago? Any help would be gratefully received. The main point here is that in no way have we ever tried to claim anything which we were not entitled to, we have been completely honest. and submitted all the proper paperwork requested. It is almost impossible to work out for yourself what you are entitled to so you do have to rely on the powers that be to get it right.0

The best thing to do is to fill in the forms and send them off, then she will be treated as a home student. There isn't much to fill in if you are not being income assessed."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -

He should not under any circumstances withdraw from the course! You cannot withdraw and enrol again a week later. Once you have withdrawn, you are no longer a student and would have to reapply through UCAS. If he wants to leave his contract, he needs to find a replacement or negotiate with the university. The best thing for him to do is to go and see the Student Advice Centre at his students union."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present.
