SIRENS said:Hi just wondering if someone could advise me, my daughter will be starting uni this coming year and I am thinking of taking an OU course myself part time. I am a bit confused with regard to the student/maintenance loan as regards to income. I work pastime and will continue to do so, my daughter currently works part time although her hours will reduce further when she starts uni. I have one son about to take his gcse this year. When she applies for the maintenance loan do I need to include my salary and the child benefit I receive for my son? I earn under 20k myself and am a lone parent after losing my husband 18 months ago. I don't receive any other income apart from child benefit and my salary plus a bit of interest from saving. Am I able to apply for myself also or will I not be eligible for any type of help? Sorry for the confusing I have not been in school since 1991 so it's all a bit new to me! She received reduced grant support as it is in the Arts (😞) and took on a student loan. She was successful in gaining a place this Sept to the 3 year degree accredited with City, Uni of London. In relation to which plan she is on, does she fall into the new loan rules changed from 2023 onwards or not not as was already in the system? Thanks for your help anyone!0

Hello
I have a Plan 1 I think they called it Loan back in the late 90's.
Today however I have had some back pay and a cost of living rise for last year and 3 months of this year.
This has been a substantial amount and thus from the usual £24 a month I pay to them this month the figure was over £1500.
They say they calculate repayments monthly but surely this isn't my fault it's taken so long for us to get back pay and thus shouldn't the student loans be looking at the average annual pay ?

Has anybody else had random hassle this year with deferment? I've previously sent self assessment tax returns and these have been accepted but this year they have been demanding bank statements. Expenditure has nothing to do with eligibility for deferment so for a while I was baffled why they were requesting this, but today on receiving another letter demanding more bank statements it dawned on me what they're doing - they're constantly moving the goalposts so they can refuse deferment on technicalities and take money from my account in the meantime. To begin with I was told to show money going in only, then they requested utility bills and now everything. Apart from the privacy invasion this makes no sense apart from the above tactic. Very devious IMO.0

Gov.uk says pre 2006 is when I'm 65 but a guide on mse says 25 years after last loan was paid

Repaying…
I have set up a standing order for a regular monthly payment but the SLC are hounding me to pay more. They set up a Direct Debit and began taking almost £90 a month (without my authorisation) which I cannot afford so I cancelled that and set up the aforementioned standing order for a more affordable amount. Can they demand more?0 -
