Ciamalza271 said:Does anyone know if student finance take into account child maintenance? On paper our household income is good but my husband pays over £600 a month (£7500 a year) in CSA and there is no information to say if this is taken into account? Also we have two other children who will be living at home with us.... does this make any difference to the amount of loan? Obviously I want to support my son as much as possible but not sure we can find all of it!!
Student Finance won't discount child maintenance payments or any other obligations for that matter.
You're required to report your whole income (i.e. from all sources) the only things that will be excluded are non-taxable state benefits.
The ONLY deductions to your income they'll consider are Private Pension Contributions AVCs and/or
Allowable Expenses on which tax relief was claimed (if self-assessed).
If you have other child dependants **living in the same household** then Student Finance will deduct a set amount from the household income (per dependant) and that will reduce the HHI somewhat.
Hope this helps a little.

Thanks! It’s all so confusing and no one is available to contact regarding any uni stuff at the moment! Our eldest (the one going to uni!) has autism so he has looked up DSA too and that will help a bit!1

I've just tried logging into my account. After putting in my customer reference number, it is asking me to "Enter the password we sent to you" - I haven't been sent a password nor have I requested one.
I've had an account for several years - should I be expecting this?
Thanks0 -

If you've registered your e-mail address with them already, simply reset it and you'll get an e-mail from them with either a link or new credentials.
If you either haven't registered your e-mail or you are unsure which you've used, you'll need to call their offices to update your account.1 -
I've been registered and logged in several times over the last year - and at least once within the last 3 months0

Interesting!
May already be doing so, but type your CRN rather than copy and paste. Copy and paste can often cause an issue by picking up an extra space or such that the website will recognise as a character.
If you still face problems, I'd recommend contacting them directly1 -
Hi.I’ve recently gone onto direct debit student loan repayments with two payments left to make. My June payment was due on the 1st but hasn’t been debited from my account. I logged in today and my account balance is showing as a negative figure.Does this mean I have overpaid?0

But it depends on how 'recently' is recent. Chances are that Student Loans may still be waiting for your tax file for the 2019/20 tax year to finalise everything their end, but as long as the information you gave/confirmed with them in order to change your repayment to DD in the first place is 100% accurate then there will be no concern, and I'm confident your loan should be repaid.
Check your payslips, or if you've been with the same employer all year, check your M12 payslip , or P60 if you have it. Have the total Student Loan deductions figure to hand and call them. Make sure you have separate figures for any deductions taken after 6 April 2020.
When you call, ask them to make sure that the figures match your records. If they have a higher figure, DO NOT take that as gospel. If it's an HMRC error, it will be corrected. Tell them it doesn't match, and ask them to verify it with HMRC again.
If the figures correspond, they will tell you whether there is a small balance that remains, whether it is repaid in full or whether you have a credit balance.
With lag, you should never take your online balance as being truly representative of what is owed. Always check with them.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, very useful. I provided all my deductions for 19/20 to them in November, after receiving an email / text that asked me to move to direct debit. Direct pay deductions stopped in December, and I made my first of 7 projected payments 1st jan. the number of payments and amount to pay was based on my payslip deductions for the 19/20 tax year up to November.0

It could be a simple error in calculation from the advisor or system and was perhaps 5(?) I could understand a discrepancy of a month either way, but 2 seems unusual. I'd recommend contacting to be sure.1
