Not asking for help with this, but just suggesting to all repaying students that it's a really really good idea to check the annual statements which are sent out showing what you owe and how much you've repaid.
DS2 has discovered that HIS statement does not show any of the repayments his now former employer deducted from his salary in 2017-18. He's been asked to produce all his payslips for the year, there's only one he can't find and he's hopeful he'll be able to get a copy of that.
It's not a small and incompetent employer either (at least they haven't been so until now).Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi after some advice please,
Having completed a nursing degree, which was funded by the NHS so no student finance, DS has been accepted on a medicine degree course starting in September. Our understanding was that Student Finance would only cover the first £5,800 of Year 1 but he has just had an email saying that he has to pay the full amount. Is this right? Has sent us into somewhat of a panic!!!
Any help appreciated - TIA0 -

I know from friends that the answer may depend on whether he is on a undergraduate or post-grad medicine course.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Graduate medicine so I think it's undergrad but he is post grad ?? Not very helpful - sorry
There are 2 routes for graduates in a related subject. post grad medicine is a shorter course and comes with better funding. Under grad medicine is really starting again and there is less funding in the early years. It is far more competitive to get a place on a post grad medicine course, so a lot of students do choose the under grad route, but that does leave you more self funding to find.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Have you looked at the University web site? There's usually no funding from the SLC for the first year, but there may be something else.0

Hi
My partner earns about 40k a year, I am a student and I wondered if we got married would it decrease or increase my allowance?
We are of course not basing our decision to get married on this, however, It'd be nice to know so there are no surprises.
Any advice or assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -

Shouldn't make any difference because if you are living together they will already be taking their income in to account0
