  • never went to UNI myself but my step daughter found this useful!
  • Hi SLCWorker

My Son recently started University and at the time of applying for Loans we agreed that our household income was too high to get any extra loan or grants so we decided not to apply.

Since then my only source of income has stopped and my partner is only earning about 13K.

I would like to apply retrospectively for extra loan for my son but I can only find a P60 for my partner. I cannot find my P60 for 2014/15. The company I was working for sent P60 and payslips online which I downloaded but did not print.

    The files have been lost.

Do I need to provide proof of income (P60) to get help?
We are really desperate to solve this as my Son will not be able to continue if we do not get it.

    I hope you can help

I imagine so as that's the proof of your income.

You can request replacement P60s from your employer.

But they don't have to provide them, and if they do they can charge for it (which is why it's one of the most important documents to make sure you keep).

I'd start by asking the employer if they will provide a duplicate P60, and if they either won't or want to charge a lot, I believe you can now get a personal tax statement from HMRC which - if it goes back that far - should be OK?

  • Hi,

I am looking at applying for postgraduate loan. The course and I are eligible. However, on the gov.uk/studentloans it says the loan may affect any benefits received. I work full-time and will continue to do so during study (it's criteria of the course to be in my working environment). My partner and I rent private and have 2 children. We get child tax credit. We don't claim housing benefit or anything else.

As the loan is considered an income, does anyone know how will this affect our claim for child tax credits? Would it also affect working tax?

Any help would be great as i cannot find any forums with people similar to myself.

    Thanks

What is your income from work? What is the loan worth? Add the two together and look at entitledto to see what effect it will have.
