Hello Taiko thanks for the reply, no my parents were not divorced, my mum left in 2003 just walked out the door she had no contact with my father after that. We see her ocasionally but have no support from her.:wave:0

Ok, rules out that line of attack.
It is going to just have to rely on the appeal. The regulations just state you must be supporting yourself out of your own earnings, they do not specify an amount. If they are rejecting you on the basis of earning under £7500, then it's not a correct assessment with regards to the regulations. Rather, they should've asked you to provide evidence on how you supported yourself for those 3 years.0 -
They are rejecting me on the grounds that I earned under £7,500. I provided them with the info on what I earned that year and I'm more than willing to show the ways and means I supported myself. I will have to wait and see what they say.
Thanks again Taiko.:wave:0 -
Hello slcworker,
I've never contributed to a forum before, but how do I get the message out that the Welsh Government allow 2010/11 Welsh students to cancel half the loan for that year, (and potentially those in 2011/12) described as Partial cancellation of student loan debt.
As a newby I can't paste the link, but Student Finance Wales, click Repayment of Student Loans tab, click the link repayment of income contingent loans, then click on Welsh Loan Cancellation. If applicable follow the instructions.0 -
Hello all,
So I have just had a reply from the appeals team this is what it said;
Thank you for your correspondence dated 17 October 2011.
As this is not a Formal Appeal it has been passed on to the relevant
department to deal with. You will hear from them in due course.
An appeal relates to decisions about your funding based on how we interpret
the law, with the information available to us. As you are simply enquiring
about your assessment along with further information about how you self
supported in the years prior to your course, this will need to be
investigated and responded to by the Processing Unit.
As a result, I can confirm that the appeal has not been progressed at stage
one in this instance.
So do I now how to wait to see what the processing team say? I can't afford to phone them as I only have my mobile and my bill was 85 quid last month just from calling them!
Many thanks,
A very stressed Wellylass89:wave:0 -
I would guess so, although I'm guessing you sent off that evidence before posting here. In any case, it should really be a formal appeal based on Schedule 4 of The Education (Student Support) Regulations.0

The only infomation I sent them, was what I sent with my application (my P60's and so on) and the email I was told to write to the appeals department by the guy on the phone.
This is really upsetting me now, no one seems to have a clue whats going on it's not like I'm trying to apply for money that I'm not entitled to, on the plus side maybe I ll hear something from them before christmas!

I can't sort it now, but if you have not heard by the end of next week, post back up again. If needbe, I'll take it on and help out in depth.0

Hi guys,
I have posted this on another thread but have been advised to post up here:
I have a query, 3 yrs ago my mother died, our son was at Uni, the resulting termoil he failed his exams and they chucked himout.
A year later he thinks I start again, with a local Uni.
Student Finance said what happened before, write a letter to explain and send Death cert to prove same.
Did that, but they haven't sent the Death cert back, after 2 yrs.
I've asked nicely, people have said we have it, write a request for it back. Done that, no joy, it upsets me having to explain the circumstances over and over, to someone who really can't be bothered.
What can I do to get the cert back, it has personal info on it afterall ?

I am posting this up for a friend, he is at Uni and started this september. He has only got the basic 65% mantainance grant as his mother and her partner earn too much (they have two other children and a mountain of debt). Problem is they are not in any position to give him any money to help him through his course. Would he classified as being independent and therefore be able to claim the full amount? Or do the forces that be not care about this fact and assume that he will get money?0
