Hiya, my father was made redundant in January 2010, and his redundancy money isn't distinguished from his salary on his P60. How will this affect my student loan, as his redundancy was high (had been working there for 20 years) but it is all gone as he didn't manage to find a new job for almost 12 months.
A p60 is an end of year certificate. if he has left his job he should have recieved a p45....0 -

So if he sends that instead they won't assume the full income is the same as the salary+redundancy?:A If saving money is wrong, I don't want to be right. William Shatner

I hope there is somebody who could help me please.
I started a course at university in 2009 and left in November 2010 before finishing it. I transferred to a new course within the same university and I will start my new course in September 2011. In the meantime I am suspending my studies.
After receiving a confirmation about the changes regarding my course, I decided to return to my home country (EU member state) for the period I am suspending my studies. BEFORE doing so I called student finance england wondering whether this 8 month long absence would have any affect on my eligibility in the future (such as the maintenance loan and grant). I was told that it is fine as I am only suspending my studies I will return in September and that it is only a temporary period. So I returned to my home country and since then I called several times regarding the issue of absence. I was told by one of the advisers that I am breaking my residency (I think he meant ordinary residency) whilst others said it is completely normal to be away for a couple of months and I am only exercising my right to roam. Had I been told I shouldn`t leave for longer than a given period would have stayed in the UK. I arrived in the UK in July 2005 and lived there continuously right until December 2010. Also I only returned to my home country in order to avoid financial hardship and to prepare for my new course. I don`t intend to work and I have a firm intention to return to the UK.
If anyone has any experience regarding this kind of absence, or could help me in anyway I would really appreciate it.0 -
If you're still in suspension, you'll need to obtain transfer paperwork. If the university decided to just withdraw you from the new course, and you are treated as a new application for the course you are looking to start in September, then yes you have broken the residency criteria. Suspension & transfer means you wouldn't have.0

Dear Taiko,
Thank you for responding. On the same day when I and the award leader for the old course signed my withdrawal form I and the award leader for the new course have also filled out a transfer form for that new course. It was an internal transfer. I was told that instead of withdrawing and leaving university and going through UCAS I could withdraw from the old course and transfer to the new course. As the university said transfers take place during the summer due to administrative reasons. I have received a letter which contains a line saying agreed date of return and it says 22/09/2011) This is a copy of what they sent student finance it says on the top: intermitting notice.
So basically I am a new applicant in the eyes of SFE but from the university`s viewpoint a suspending student who already gained a place on the course and suspending his studies.
I am a little confused. Do you mean that if I am actually suspending the old course and the transfer takes place in the summer then I am not breaking the residency criteria?
Thank you for your help0 -
Sounds like an internal transfer during suspension, which would be ok as long as the university provide the paperwork.
As an aside, please do not hassle me via PM if you've posted. I prefer to keep my inbox empty for casework.0 -
Thank you Taiko and I apologize for the PM.

Please Help!!
I haven't had a statement from SLC in years, have been chasing up and they gave me the amounts i have paid off over the past 4 years - but they seemed low in comparison to how much comes out of wages each month, so went back and checked my old payslips and have definitely paid more than has been taken off the loan. (and that's even with a few missing payslips)
Checked P60's as well, and they aren't right as one says I have paid nothing in a year when i paid approx £1500 - how do i go about sorting this mess out??
All advice welcome0 -
Hi, wonder if anyone can help.
My sons girlfriend is going into second year, but her mother refuses to do the income decleration thing. The student loans company has said she has to go to a lawyer to declare this, but it still might not be enough.
Oh we are in Scotland and she shares a flat with my son.
Does anyone have any idea what she can do. She depends on this money to live and receives no help from her mother at all.
Thanks.0 -
If her mother dies before the 1st September, she'll get full support.
Note: I am not advocating murder.0
