The letter is from an agency called Close Credit Management ltd.
I received a letter from SLC in april 2010 asking about repayment, I sent them proof stating that I was claiming Income support. I never heard anything else from them again.
Im really worried about this. I only received the letter yest and have not contacted the SLC yet.
I was a mature student and have 3 children and graduated 2009.0 -

Hi there,
Please can someone help with my query.
My DH has gone to university aged 32. In August (we left it late as he wasn't confirmed on the course until then) He logged onto the system and applied for student finance.
At the time he was in deferment for previous student loans and he had been advised by thesis servicing to not worry about paying for the loan as it would go through and recalculate backward three months.
There is a question on the form asking if he was currently behind in loan payments. Being honest he clicked yes at which point the form locked him out and told him to call.
He rang student loans who explained where he'd gone wrong and directed him to the printable form. We filled it in and sent it back with all of my documents attached.
DH started university in mid September and rang the loan company to find out what was happening. He was advised that the form we had filled out was last years form and they were in the process of sending us the new forms, we were to fill them in and return but they would keep my documents.
Two days later the form arrived.
Two days after that my documents arrived.
Thankfully we'd been a touch delayed so all of the items went in the post together.
Fast forward another half a month and DH rings again to find out what's happened to be advised that he owes thesis servicing money so he was currently declined.
He rang thesis servicing who advised that they had made a mistake and the computer hadn't updated his status.
After a LOT of phone calls backward and forth the student loan company have advised that his status has been updated and they are sending off for assessment. At the beginning of the problem we had been told that he had already been assessed and that updating the system would clear the funds. After 8 or so conversations during which we were told 8 weeks before we'd see anything, 1 week, 3 weeks and so on we've just been informed that it will be WEEKS before we see anything.
Does anyone know how I can speed this up? none of it has been our fault and I'm getting debt collection letters now.
It's depressing both DH and myself.I don't often return to a thread I've posted on so.... if you want to ask me about anything I've written please pm me- I don't bite.0 -
if you are having debt collection letters, get over to the DFW board asap and put up all your details. if you only applied in August, you won't be getting the loan any time soon so a plan is needed in the meantime. i'd suggest asking about emergency funds at the uni and seeing if anyone on DFW can find extra money in your budget.:happyhear0

OK-
New problem. After speaking to the university finance help DH went to Darlington this morning to talk to some one face to face.
They've assessed him and advised that as he has previously attended university they are not willing to pay the fees for this years course but they will give him a maintenance grant.
What do I do now?
They've advised that they will pay the next three years course fees but not this years. If it matters he's studying an extended engineering course as they won't let him go straight into the degree as he has been out of education for too long.
He's going to have to drop out if we can't get his fees paid.

How many years was he at university before?0

Also, if they're declining a fee payment, he's not entitled to a maintenance grant under The Student Support Regulations 2009.0

May well do. But I wouldn't put it past SFE!
I think I'm being too grumpy this morning, query wise.0 -
