Contract Dilemma...wait for upgrade or new contract!?!?!?

Hey all,

firstly being a numpty i smashed up my nokia n95 last month, and the carphonewarehouse have told me that even though i took out mobile phone insurance when i upgraded, because they didn't set up the direct debit i am not covered.

so here is my dilemma, my contract does not end for another 4 months, however i can upgrade 28th july.
the phone which i have borrowed of my parents is rubbish and broke, so i ideally would like a brand new one.

when i was going to upgrade i would of wanted a blackberry bold, i have called up the carphonewarehouse to try and get a good deal on a new phone however i can't get another contract with o2 as they won't allow me (failed credit check, even though i am currently with them and have been for nearly 4 years!) i have however been told i have been accepted for orange.

do i gamble and get a new contract with orange and drop my current o2 tarriff down as low as i can for the duration of the contract, or wait until my upgrade date and maybe not get much of a better deal?

could i try and barted a better deal with the sales guy?

any help appreciated...

Tom

from personal experience that sounds like a load of guff, I was with O2 for years, and had 'iffy' credit elsewhere, but a good record with O2, and I sailed through a credit check for an additional contract...possibly the salesman is trying to push Orange contracts at the moment? Personally I would ring O2 up, explain the situation and see what they can offer you, its not unknown for them to drop your current deal to the minimum and offer a new contract...give it a try, ntohing to lose.....

and personally, Orange are a nightmare as they cripple the phones with their own branding software

EDIT: is there nothing on your house insurance you can claim for? or via a bank account? some bank accounts with Lloyds TSB offer Phone Insurance
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!
