Freezing Strawberries

Strawberries go a bit mushy when they are defrosted so they are not much use as a garnish to a dish. However they will still be fine for smoothies etc.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

It's such a shame that one of our best fruit's doesn't freeze that well. Smoothies are the best option for Strawberries, you're lucky to have any left to freeze :rotfl:0

Someone once told me that if you put strawberries in a tub and sprinkle sugar over them then they freeze fine but I haven't done it so not sure if it works or not.Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

I used to blend strawberries then freeze them to give to my kids when they are were weaning. They became very runny, ideal for smoothies or pouring on ice cream etc.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0

I don't even thaw my strawberries for smoothies, I just put them straight into the smoothie maker with milk, yoghurt and a couple of bananas, the smoothie comes out lovely and coldOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Thanks everybody
I have just chopped them up a bit and frozen them! Like Moggins suggested, I will probably just put them straight in the smoothie jug with bannanas and whatever else I have.

I woud like to get a massive load of strawberries to freeze so I can easily chuck a few in with some milk and banana etc of a morning for a smoothie
Whats the cheapest way to buy them - supermarket, pick your own, farmers market, farm store-y type place ?
And once I buy them I presume I can just wash and hull them and freeze them like that ?
How long will they be ok for in the freezer ?
Thanks

I remove the tops, and cut mine into little bits, and chuck into a freezer bag. Ones from last year are still fine.
I prefer the small bits as it's easier to blend (even though the stick blender is supposed to crush ice)0
