Did it boot without the screen working? It might be that the power connector solder was loosened also during the damage occuring or the repair process and it needs desoldering and then resoldering. You could try that.
Disassemble back to the motherboard,desolder the connector(the bit the charger plugs into) and clean the board, resolder the connector. assemble. plug it in. Ive done mine.A new connector for mine was about £5 from ebay.
