No power in laptop, Have i shorted something?

Hi all,

Long story short ... little boy bust screen on laptop, i ordered and fitted new screen myself. I have just finished fitting but the machine wont power up at all ... not on battery or mains.

Is it possible i have shorted somethng in side whilst fitting the new screen ... i didnt use anti static gloves or anything.

Is there a fuse i can check?

Any help is good cheers!

Are you sure that you've reconnected everything properly? Did you remove the battery before starting work on replacing screen, and did you discharge any static you may have had on you before starting work by touching something earthed, like a bit of exposed metal on a radiator?

99.9% sure everythin is reconnected. Idiot here did not remove battery during replacement. and did not make any concious effort to discharge static.

looks like my diy moneysaving attempt is going to cost me more!

What laptop is it, might know a guy (through eBay) who can repair it for you.

The battery may be flat after it's been disasembled for a few days?
Is there any output from the mains adaptor-does the green light come on?-check it with a multimeter. Is the battery charge light coming on?
Don't assume you've killed it until you have completed the basic checks to see if power is getting to the laptop.
Retry it on mains with the battery removed.

Battery charge light on laptop does not come on ... there is no light on the mains adaptor ... if you put your ear to it you can hear it buzzing

"Well the question to ask is "What did I last do".
    Answer "take it apart"
    "Did it work before?"
    Yes
    Then that's the problem innit.
    Get the screw driver out!

Do you mean, 'the light does not come on on the adaptor', or 'there is no light fitted on the adaptor'? Check the adaptor output with a muitimeter before you take the lappy apart again.
