The Guilt Trip!!

I had an auction end last Thursday, and the winning bidder got in touch last night to say that they would pay for the item on Thursday when all their other stuff they are bidding on ends, meaning they hit the 7 day mark.

I replied saying this was fine, but to let them know they only have 7 days to pay and that some sellers would get annoyed with this, especially as she was online and could pay. I said I was fine with this.

She sent me a snotty email back, saying that 'sorry it was such a great incovenience to me', that no one else had a problem with it and she didnt have much time as she 'had given up her life to help needy teenagers'.

All fair enough, but why did she feel the need to guilt trip me. What has that got to do with anything?!?!

I have heard it all now!

there are people in the world like that Jokarty, you just have to go with the flow. Sounds like a bitter old woman.
Anyway, to do with the guilt trip - remember this.

No one can make you feel guilty without your consent.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You should have emailed back to say you are using the money earned on ebay to build an orphanage!

Haha, yeah do it! She's probably lying, as someone who actually did help needy teenagers wouldn't throw it in your face like that.

Alternatively you could respond that you are in fact a teenager who really needs that money!!

i, like everyone else, have had a few of these "buy now pay later" types, due to there being nothing much i can do for 7 days i always reply very politely and say, "that's fine please inform me if anything changes to avoid a dispute being raised".

What i really want to do is email them this rant. NO YOU CAN NOT PAY LATER, Did it say buy now pay later? no it didn't you IDIOT, you bought so pay for it, if you went into Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and took a trolley full of food to the till and said, Can i pay for this next week? they wouldn't put your trolley in storage they would put the stuff back on the shelf and sell it and that is what i am going to do, here's an idea, i'm a business seller i have hundreds of these as you can see from my feedback, if you wanted to pay next week why didn't you just buy next week....................

It goes on....but i think you get the idea. Of course i wouldn't dream of ever sending that rant to a customer.

What annoys me about it is it would be common decency to ask first if you would be happy to wait a week or however long for payment before bidding, i think it's just cheeky.

As for guilt tripping, yea had one or two of those, including one woman who tried to guilt trip me into returning her money for an mp3 player that was "dangerous" and had "nearly killed my 4 year old son" stating that she was angry at me for selling such dangerous items telling me "you should be ashamed of yourself" and promising me "i will dispose of it i just want my money back" Strangely when i insisted that she return it (at my expense of course) for inspection so that we could determine the fault and whether or not we needed to recall all of these players for safety reasons, she suddenly replied, "that’s ok, I’ve decided to keep it now"........Really? you are going to keep something in the house that nearly killed your 4 year old son? it wasn't by any chance a disgraceful attempt to get money from me and keep a perfectly safe, working item by guilt tripping me and making me think something i sold endangered the life of a child was it??

Unfortunately you get these people on eBay, just ignore them where possible.

I like you rant, made me smile. I had exactly those thoughts. Thing is if she had of asked, I would have said 'No, you cant pay in a weeks time' because I am going on holiday soon, and want all my ebay wrapped up and stopped with loads time to spare before I go.

Some people, the fact that she was online to email me, was what frustrated me, how long does it take to go through the paypal process - 1 minute??? She could have done that in the time it took to mail me.

She said no one else has ever had a problem with this, I am sure they have just not said anything to her.

I just didnt get why she was soooooo busy, she never had time to pay unless it was all in one go, yet she had time to email me, and had time to come on and bid.

Me thinks, she is actually waiting for payday or something!!!

I was about to say the same thing - how come she had time to send an email asking to delay payment, and then had time to sent a snotty comment later, but didn't have time to pay! It is too easy to lie in emails like that, it would be interesting to look at her feedback to see what else she has been buying etc!

We sell childrens items and get a lot of guilt trips.
"my son would like to offer you his pocket money for these items" his pocket money as it turns out is 50p and the item is 10 times that.

"my son was very dissapointed that he didn't get the card he was after" it's a lucky dip- if he wanted to buy a specific card he should've gone to one of the 100s of single card sellers or, here's a thought- asked us if we could pop that card in the lot before buying it.

    We're running a buisness, not a charity.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

but still got plenty of time to bid for several items on eBay on many occasions :rotfl:

tell her you'll get around to sending her item when you've finished selling all of your items on eBay.

might just do this.....sorry but i cant send your item out for 7 days, due to going to sri lanka to help with an orphanage out there!

everyone has different things going on in there lives, these things have nothing to do with ebay!!

can you imaging going into Next and saying 'sorry i cant pay for this item now as i dont have time, i work with needy teenagers'???

why do people treat sellers on ebay so differently!
