    Whether they accept it or not is really not your problem.

    What *I* would do now would be sending a letter to them stating that if they wish to challenge your chap's report in court then they can do so and commission their own expert, but that you have done everything they asked and more and that you are not prepared to put up with any more of their delaying tactics. You hereby give them 14 days to refund the total cost of the mattress + the cost of the report or you'll take them to small claims for it and will be quite happy to let the judge decide. After 14 days, take them to court and claim the total cost of mattress + report + 8% statutory APR + court fee.

    Like I often say, there are people in life, you have to stamp on their toes until THEY apologise.

    Providing that your independent expert is considered an expert in his field by his peers and any relevant professional body - then tell Dreams to take a walk (politely). I'd add that based on their handling of the problem to date, you have sought a thoroughly independent expert spelling out his qualifications, affiliations, relevent experience and if they wish to question his expertise, then they should do that in the court.
