does anyone know about the charging by Orange of 9p for a SMS delivery receipt on a Blackberry handset? I am trying to find out how to stop this (if i can) but can't find out if it is an Orange issue or a Blackberry one. surely i shouldn't be paying to be told that my SMS has arrived? i certainly didn't request this 'service'
thanks all

Orange are the only network that charge for text message delivery receipts. Pah!! Anyway, there should be a setting in your phone under message settings that lets you switch a request for these reports off. Dont know about Blackberry's but on new Nokia handsets this is usually defaulted to OFF unless you change it. Check your bill again, are you sure it it isn't actually £0.009 ie rounds up to 1p? Thats the usual charge. Hope this helps.0

Hi, I switched my daughter's to orange, and one of them enabled sms delivery notification on her blackberry curve 3g (not enabled by default) and hence on 1st bill had 1336 x 0.009 = £12.02 for this service. I phoned customer services and explained that she used to do it with virgin & 3 for free and that according to this site they were the only ones to charge, and he instantly refunded the charge and has marked the account with a note to say do the same for next bill. Very pleased with service - the guy I spoke to was very friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English unlike some of the 3 customer service guys I had to deal with... Shame they charge for something other don't, but with customer service like this - WELL DONE ORANGE!0

So I'm annoyed about this hidden charge too, but I just spoke to a nice woman for about two minutes in total and she apologised about the lack of clarity and instantly applied a £25 credit to my bill! The average cost for all the delivery receipts was between £1-2.50 each month, so it's definitely worthwhile making a complaint.0

I noticed on my bill that I am randomly being charged 0.09. I have a Samsung galaxy s3 and have always had the delivery reports deactivated. I complained to orange who automatically upgraded my account to unlimited talk and txt with 1gb of data free of charge. They are looking into the matter. However, given the automatic upgrade, I feel this is a know error to orange and many others have complained in the past0

I realise this thread is old however I wonder if anyone can advise please?
For the past few months I have been charged for delivery reports amounting to £262.
When I first enquired as to why organge were removing excessive charges from my account I was informed about the delivery receipts. I explained that I didn't know what they were and couldn't see any way of identifying them - my phone and my husbands phone do the same thing so I was unable to tell any different, and couldn't see any delivery report option in any of the menues.
anyway three months have now passed each time with me asking them to sort and stop these extra charges. It was only until I managed to speak to someone with half a brain cell who wanted to help we got the issue sorted and she has now turned them off.
However im now left with a 262 bill that I cannot and will not pay. Orange refuse to wipe this amount out regardless of the fact that I have been continually asking for help to resolve these charges and put a stop to the them.
Do I have any case against P4U who supplied the phone/contract? surely they should know about the phones and contracts they sell and should have told me about the phone being supplied with delivery reports "ON" by default and thus would be extra to my usual contracted amount?
any advise as to how to sort this bill out?0 -
So, if you don't get the (wrong) answer you are looking for, keep going anyway rather than learn from the information already PROVIDED:-

26,200 texts over a few months?
Checked your credit file? Debt collectors.
The phone settings are your personal choice if you dont want the out of the box setting you change it.
I spend an evening tinkering with the settings on a new phone before inserting the SIM.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

13,100 for a new contract where it costs 2p/text.
I.e. on average about 150 texts per day.0 -
Not true. Three is charging for it as well.
Recently changed my OH over from Virgin to the 3 Sim, after the first 2 texts I checked the balance to make sure they were really only 2p a text but found they were 3p:eek:.
Rang customer services who looked and said that it included 1p per text for a delivery report. Like the OP I did not realise that the phone the Sim was put in had delivery reports enabled, obviously Virgin did not charge or I had been very lax and not checked:mad:
The very helpful guy talked me through disabling it and said he would refund the 2p but ended up refunding about 50p.0
