used photo from a website so ebay removed my listing...

...but it had ended and buyer paid instantly so thankfully he'll get his item, and I won't have to relist thank god! Felt very embarassed though when I sent an explanatory email to my buyer. Telling someone that you were too lazy to recharge the batteries in your camera so you could take a pic. and so took one from a website, but now are having your hand smacked by ebay, is so cringy. And it also must make a seller seem a little to dodgy to a buyer when ebay notifies him that the item he's won has been cancelled!! I'll be taking all my own photos from now on- i just wasn't thinking. :o Has this happened to anyone else? Ebay seem to be cracking down in this alot more now.
I might be broke but happy but I'd happily not be broke!

Sounds like someone reported your auction..
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!
  • you think so? I wasn't selling anything dodgy or illegal- just an ordinary bag i'd bought from Monsoon but decided to sell. It's annoying that someone would report this when there's hundreds of seriously scummy ebayers selling all sorts of counterfeit dvds etc. who seem to get away with it with no prob.

Devil's advocate here (i thank you, I thank you....)

This happened the other way round with me, was selling my phone a while ago, my auction had a couple of days left, when this guy starts selling a similar phone, WITH MY PHOTOS!

Once my auction had ended, i changed all the photos (via photobucket) to !!!!!!, and then got his listing removed. HA!

My point is, is it really worth the SHAME and the hassle?

Don't be so bloody lazy next time!

normally ebay only remove if someones reports a problem with your listing.

i pretty sure if you are a repeat offender, then ebay may take a look at your listing before allowing it to run

I've listed stuff like DVDs or books where you input the ID number thingy into e-bay and it pulls up the proper picture for you, rather than using my amateur photo taken on the kitchen table! So what's the difference between using this, and copying a proper picture from a public website (not being awkward - new to e-bay and asking a genuine question, as I don't want to get my wrist slapped!)?

It's 1st time I'd used a picture I hadn't taken. I've 100 % feedback and I've ever had a listing removed. I'm just an broke student who occassionaly sell unwanted presents, impulse clothes buys (I own too many shoes!) that I can't really afford etc not a professional seller

I just re-read the email and it said that they'd received a complaint directly from Monsoon, rather than someone reporting it. I just thought I'd better warn other not very experienced ebayers not to do this, although it's sometimes easier than trying to take a decent picture of your item. I'm sure lots of people do it without realising that Companies do (apparently) keep an eye on ebay listing to watch for unauthorised use of their images. I just thought that if I shared my experience, it may prevent some-else having their otherwise legitmate listing removed, albeit with an apology from ebay!

Well if they removed your listing they should have refunded your fees and the item is still sold :T So the listing cost you nothing?

A question for grex9101. So if I lift a photo from photo-bucket and someone copies the photo, how do you change it so their picture is changed? Sounds a great idea. !!! How funny ?
