The prices sound quite reasonable - we do seem to be spending a lot on wet food at the moment. Do you feed biscuits at all as well or just the bone and raw food?

No dry food (this is not a natural source of food for cats) just the raw, bone and muscle.

You can order a taster pack for £10 including delivery to try them on it, this is refundable upon your second order if you choose to stick with it. Try giving them a chicken wing to start with say tonight or tomorrow, remember not to cook it because cooked bones can be harmful to animals as they splinter.

Thanks Kimberley, think we will give it a go and see how they get on. I saw the starter pack and thought it looked quite good.

Suffice to say all hell broke loose. I now understand why the vet said to us that if we had to take the cat to the vet to have her teeth cleaned, they would first knock her out.

Sorry, but i would be looking for another VET, they cant be much cop if he/she couldnt brush a cats teeth without aneasthetic - hopefully they were joking.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

No they won't have been joking. Cats are so different to dogs & should be treated as such. There is no way a vet would carry out dentistry on a cat without first knocking it out. That's why obese cats can be left to suffer with teeth issues as it is to risky to adminster aneasthetic.

I think McKneff has misunderstood: cats go to the vet's for treatment, not brushing. Only an eccentric millionaire would consider taking the cat to the vet's for brushing, I reckon. You'd be taking them every other week, wouldn't you?

I'm more than willing for you to visit us and attempt to clean her teeth without using anesthetic. I would obviously ask you to sign a disclaimer before you try.:D

I initially thought the vet was joking, however I can assure you they weren't. As 'the devil made me do it' has confirmed, vets are likely to use anesthetic.

'Bitter and twisted' we're not millionaires; a bit eccentric perhaps; anyway, we'd definitely take our monkey to the vet to have her teeth cleaned if it came to it. Even if we were short of cash, I'd more than happily go hungry to ensure we paid for our moggy to have her teeth cleaned. I'd hate to think she was suffering due to tooth decay and thus found it difficult to eat.

I understand and accept that taking a pusscat to the vet's for tartar removal etcetera would entail an anaesthetic and would go without food myself if my darling boy needed it. That's what I meant (if I said it) by cleaning. Not brushing. No-one in their right mind, except an eccentric millionaire would take a cat to the vet just for brushing

Hi BitterandTwisted, when you mentioned 'treatment' previously, I wasn't clear what you meant. Yes, we're on the same wavelength.

Hi all, just a quick update. We have ordered a starter pack from food4-cats to introduce the cats to a bone and raw food diet.

In the meantime have been giving them less commercial food and some chicken legs to try out. The youngest cat seems to be enjoying it and eats the meat to the bone and then chews the bone as well. Our oldest cat isn't impressed and won't even look at it whilst the middle cat tries but only has four teeth, poor love. The youngest helps by tearing bits off for her then running away with the rest! :rotfl:

I'm hoping the more sausage like/ minced raw food from the starter pack will be more acceptable to the older cat. She is quite stubborn though.
