Billy Oh Garden Table & Chairs

Not sure if this the best forum to ask this question, but here goes anyway...

My wife & I are looking at buying a new table & chairs for the garden and I have come across the Billy Oh range which looks really good and well priced.

See here: http://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk/6-Seater-Sets/BillyOh-21-Oval-Extending-Teak-Set

The site has a number of reviews, but everyone gives 5/5 so you do wonder about the impartiality of the reviews.

So does anyone from the MSE world have any experience of Billy Oh garden furniture that they could share with me - good or bad?

Spent some time looking at this website and their bbqs last year.
The company operates many many clone websites, all selling the same things from a single warehouse. So I don't trust the ratings and from comparing the look of the bbqs with other similar ones, they're trying to sell identical bbqs but "talk them up" as higher quality.

Purely a personal, subjective opinion. I didn't buy a bbq from them, but went to John Lewis: you need to touch these sorts of things and make sure they're sturdy enough.

We purchased the BillyOh-Cladocalyx-6-seater-oval-set in June / July time last year from simplygardenfurniture

I would say its very good for the money, just wish the sun would come out so we could use it more ....

Just be careful with folding type chairs as very easy to catch fingers etc when moving the chairs in to the table etc. i prefer the more solid fixed stackable type chairs but obviously you will need the room to store over winter.
Unlike their website says, you can actually leave teak furniture outside all year (cover over winter in a breathable cover if you prefer)

We bought ours from a company called Wessex Teak (google it) over 3 years ago and we have left it to age and silver naturally. Very solid and a great addition to your garden (we have the 3m long table and 8 chairs but easily sits 12 or even 14)

i would search for wessex teak on google before you jump in. You will not like what you find. And Billyoh looks grade C to me from the patchy nature of the teak.

Good reponsible manufucturers of grade A teak are people like:

    Barlow Tyrie
    Lister teak
    Faraway Furniture
    Indian Ocean

Faraway furniture and Lister teak both have excellent guides for looking out for cheap and nasty grade c teak (called teak buying advice). I suggest you read them.

Very nice, but they do come at quite a price - outside of my budget unfortunately ;-(

Looking at the BillyOh tables & chairs, I can't quite make my mind up about whether to go for Teak, Eucalyptus or Acacia??

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations as to which would be best?

The best advice i can give you is that if you cant afford good quality teak, avoid teak altogether and try and go for fully machine made Iroko. Although not as good as teak, it is quite an oily timbre and therefore should last quite some time. Unlike good quality teak, you will need to treat this though at least once a year.

Yikes - you are not wrong. We ordered ours a few years ago and had a great value large teak set delivered as promised for a very good price (won it via ebay auction). Seems they may have lost their way - shame!

Not sure I would order at the moment looking at the feedback more recently for them

OK, I have been put off the BillyOh sets - mainly because of reports of the teak not being of particularly good quality.

So now I have turned my attention to Humber Teak. I found this site and like the look of the Paris set (4th down here http://www.humberimports.com/teak/specialoffers.htm).
They promise grade A teak and from the pictures they do look like good quality.

Does anyone have any experience of Humber teak?
Anything I need to look out for?
There seem to be a number of different dealers all offering these sets. Can anyone recommend any one particular dealer/site?
