Can I leave Tiscali?

I have been thinking of changing from Tiscali to Sky in order to get the sky+ package.
My contract doesn't end until November BUT, now that Talk Talk have taken over can I legally terminate my contract? I have the Broadband/tele/line rental package.

Thanks.

No, the contract will pass to TalkTalk.
You can leave any time you want, but you 'll have to pay up the balance of the contract as an early termination fee.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Just checking, but surely if the contract is passing to TalkTalk then the terms and conditions of that contract would change with the new owners?

We paid a hefty early contract termination fee specifically to leave TalkTalk, and would not have signed up to Tiscali if we'd known they were in any way affiliated with TalkTalk.

If the T&Cs change then would we have a legal right not to accept them?

there is no material change, all that has changed is the parent company

if the terms change, then that is different and you can move, but usually you only have between 2 weeks and 30 days to change, otherwise you cannot move for free (ie. need to pay the outstanding contractual balance)

Yes, that's correct. The deal between Tiscali and TalkTalk will mean that Tiscali customers will be bound by the Tiscali terms and TalkTalk customers will be bound by the TalkTalk terms. Tiscali will just become a separate company operating under the Carphone Warehouse umbrella.

If changing ownership of a company negated all contracts, then HBOS customers could have walked away scott free from their loans when LLoyds TSB took them over.

Plusnet are now giving the first 3 months free if Tiscali customers transfer to Plusnet.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

It's cheaper to go via quidco (they currently give £40 cashback), and there is a special offer for everyone joining plusnet of the first 3 months at £5.99/month.

actually that is a point even if you have to pay to leave if you want to leave with the cashbacks / offers being offered to tiscali customers at the moment, still might be worth leaving even if you have to pay a fee.
