Help with complaint to Argos Card services!

Hi all.

I just wanted to know if it's worth putting a letter together regarding these cheeky useless lot at Argos. I changed my bank in late Feb from Natwest to Barclays, on the 25th of Feb i received a letter from Barclays asking me if i wanted my direct debit mandates from my old account transferred to my new Barclays account i agreed and didn't hear anything more on the subject up until the 20th of April when a letter arrived from Argos stating i missed my payment on 24th of March and they had charged me a £12 late payment fee. So then i was fuming and rang them straight away to see why! and was informed that they had no direct debit details on my account. I then rang Barclays asking what the hell was going on, they informed me that they sent the new bank details to Argos on the 3rd of March and it was showing on my account as set up. I then went back to Argos with this info and was then told we don't accept direct debit mandates from banks just the customer to prevent fraud!
Now surely if it was to prevent me against fraud why wasn't i informed about this a couple of days after? and why did i only find out on the 20th of April when my next statement came through?

I have just come off the phone to them and they said sorry and as a good will gesture we will refund you the £12 charge.

The reason i want to know if it's worth writing a letter to complain, is on my credit file it's showing as a late payment due to they're useless inept policy it's it worth asking them to amend my credit file?

Thanx

One payment late will have little bearing on your CRA - however just ask Argos to amend it and they will/should! :rotfl:

    Damn right it does!

I had £900 available credit and an outstanding balance of £400 i have since paid £240 on Friday. The minimum payment is not due until the 8th of June which is only £41.

I have never missed a payment in 14 months, so why they have acted like this is really annoying.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the credit score number in any case. I would ring Argos and ask them to correct their error as soon as possible, they have already admitted they have messed up so that's the battle won :)

The credit 'score' is meaningless, ignore it. It's just something there to make money out of you.

Pursue your complaint with Argos in writing. I'd suggest you have a claim! You did everything reasonable to ensure the payment went through. If they have a policy of ignoring bank mandates, it was their responsibility to inform you of this. You could not reasonably foresee this and as such it should have no bearing on your credit score. Demand the removal of the default and a refund of the late fee, and do not back down until they do so.

Yep, I would write a letter stating it is incorrect information. TBH if argos received the dd manate and refused to accept it as it was from the bank thet should have contact you, not kept silent
