Going to Scrap my car - any bits i should take off?

My rover 200 has been sitting in my garage for about 10 months now after the head gasket went.

Now i'm gonna take the tyres off as they are almost brand new and about 500 miles on 3 of them. And the same size tyre fits my new car.

Now i'm thinking of taking all the bulbs out as they might come in handy, but is there anything i can take off (easy) and sell on ebay?

As they scrap dealer will give me the same no matter what left is on the car.

Any help would be great

thanks

    Remove the radio?
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • Why not just advertise the vehicle on Ebay, as a 'parts car'?

Just make the auction for a 5 pence lightbulb from the car. Make it clear that anyone can turn up, pull whatever they like from it, and pay you for that. They have to remove the bits their self.

Depending on where you are, that vehicle could very well be in tatters within a fortnight. Then all you'd have to do is flog the chassis for scrap metal.

Just put the whole car on eBay as spares or repair cash on collection. Start the bidding at the amount the scarp yard would give you. I would.

Remove anything that's easy enough to get at, in decent condition and often in need of replacement. Wing mirrors and door glass spring immediately to mind.

Perhaps post up on an owners club forum to ask if anyone needs any bits before you scrap it.

If you are comfortable with an angle grinder and can get underneath the car easily enough then cut the catalytic converters out of the exhaust, they have a scrap value of around £30 on their own. You don't have to take the metal off, just cut that section of the exhaust out. Plus it means they get recycled.

as its been sitting in your garage i would start listing random parts on ebay, might take a while to shift all the worthwhile stuff but will be worth it

Fusebox. ECU wiring loom. Sunroof if there is one with no leaks. Alternator. Seats and door cards if in very good condition and particularly if of a higher spec model with desirable ones. Parcel shelves are also a favourite.

Or have you thought about trying to DIY a headgasket repair? Sending the head off to be skimmed etc. Only thing is the bolts probably go all the way through to the sump and might not be a fun job.

I believe that cars are quite expensive to sell on ebay.
Make sure you aren't stuck with it after the MOT/Tax has run out.
You might then find you can't drive it to a scrapyard if it doesn't sell.

I might need to get rid of mine and tax/MOT runs out very quickly, so I want to be in a position to drive it legally.
You will probably get more for it if you drive it there rather than have it collected.

Of course you should remove the tax disc and get a redund.

it costs £8 to list a vehicle on ebay, plus potential final value fees.

Its cost £20 to list and sell the car up to around £300 or so which is in this bracket.

It has no MOT or TAX so would need to be picked up anyway.

Gonna phone a few scrap dealers tomorrow to see what they say

    Thanks everyone
